Suspended Jockey Rajiv Maragh was suspended by the New York State Racing and Wagering Board for seven days for careless riding in the Belmont Stakes, when his horse started a series of collisions that nearly caused Kentucky Derby winner Animal Kingdom to fall just after the start. Ruler On Ice, a 24-1 long shot, won the Belmont.

Filed Home run king Barry Bonds’ attorneys filed a motion asking a judge to change Bonds’ obstruction of justice conviction to an acquittal or schedule a new trial. Bonds was convicted of obstructing a grand jury’s steroids investigation by giving an evasive answer during questioning in 2003. His lawyers argue he was unfairly convicted of “unauthorized rambling” in discussing being a celebrity child when asked whether his trainer ever injected him with a syringe. The lawyers insist that Bonds answered the question directly during further questioning.

Agree The NHL’s Dallas Stars have agreed to hire Glen Gulutzan as their next coach, the Associated Press reported. A person with knowledge of the talks said the deal is pending contract details being worked out. Gulutzan has coached the club’s top minor-league affiliate the last two seasons.

Fined: U.S. Figure Skating has reprimanded and fined Rachael Flatt for not disclosing the stress fracture that hampered her performance at the world championships. The 2010 U.S. champion announced after finishing 12th at worlds that she’d been diagnosed a week earlier with a stress fracture in her right tibia. The amount of the fine was not disclosed.

Named The Detroit Titans are renaming their court after ESPN commentator Dick Vitale, who used to be a coach and athletic director at the school.

Hired Tennessee has hired Cal State Fullerton coach Dave Serrano as the Volunteers’ new baseball head coach. Serrano, 46, is one of 11 coaches to take two different programs to the College World Series and has a career record of 289-139-1 in seven seasons as a Division I coach. He led UC Irvine to the 2007 CWS in his third season, and he led Cal State Fullerton to Omaha in 2009.
