Partly sunny weather along with showers should continue through the rest of the day as the region gets a bit of a break between spring storm systems.
Highs in Spokane were struggling to reach the middle 50s despite a forecasted high in the upper 50s. A series of shower clouds has enveloped the area, bringing light amounts of rain and some snow or hail.
At 3 p.m., it was 51 at Spokane International Airport.
Monday’s storm system is moving east of the region today, allowing higher air pressure to return bringing a break in the cool and wet spring weather this year.
Wednesday is expected to be sunny and warm with a high near 62 in downtown Spokane.
Coeur d’Alene should see 55 today and 60 on Wednesday.
Yet another storm system is due to arrive on Thursday and provide a chance of showers. Weak storm systems are expected through the weekend.
High temperature are likely to remain mild with highs in the upper 50s and lower 60s and lows in the upper 30s and lower 40s.
The cool weather on Monday brought a record for the coldest high temperature in Potlatch of only 42. The previous record low maximum there was 45 in 1960.
April in Spokane was the second coldest on record with an average temperature of 41.5 degrees, which was 5 degrees colder than normal.
