Softball roundup: University falls to Kamiakin

The Kamiakin Braves pushed across a pair of runs in the second and third innings en route to a 4-2 victory over the University Titans in a State 3A girls softball loser-out tournament game in Lacey on Saturday.

Morgan Volker and Karly Schuh each drove in a run for the Titans.

Brittany Hecker tossed four innings of one-hit relief for University.

Juanita bested Bainbridge 6-1 in the title game.

2A: Amy Martinez’s fourth single of the game was the difference as the Othello Huskies edged the West Valley Eagles 5-4 in a state tournament loser-out game in Selah.

Martinez’s one-out single in the bottom of the sixth inning scored sister Marissa Martinez, who had led off with a single before being sacrificed to second.

West Valley (26-3) grabbed the early lead, going ahead 2-0 in the second inning on the strength of a two-run home run by Jess Mitchell.

West Valley led 3-0 before Othello tied the game with a three-run third inning.

Sequim beat Ellensburg 2-1 in the championship game.

2B: The Colfax Bulldogs won a pair of games, but lost in their third contest of the day – one game short of playing for a trophy at the state tournament in Yakima.

Colfax opened with a 4-3 nine-inning win over the Reardan Indians in a loser-out matchup. The Bulldogs scored twice in the top of the ninth on a sacrifice fly and a run-scoring single by Sam Pearson.

Colfax had no trouble in its second loser-out game of the day, romping to an 11-1 win over the La Conner Braves. Pearson’s two-run single in the top of the first inning sent the Bulldogs off and running.

Colfax ran out of gas in its third game of the day, falling to the Mossyrock Vikings 5-1.

Jamie McLean allowed just two hits and fanned seven for Mossyrock.

The Northwest Christian Crusaders and the Kettle Falls Bulldogs were both eliminated in their second-day openers.

La Conner ousted Northwest Christian 7-4 and the Toutle Lake Ducks sent Kettle Falls packing with a 7-6 win.

Adna blanked Pe Ell 10-0 to win the state crown.
