Fresno State 27, North Dakota 22: Derek Carr passed for 235 yards and two touchdowns, both to Jalen Saunders, as Fresno State held off North Dakota 27-22 in nonconference play on Saturday night at Fresno, Calif.
Robbie Rouse added 110 rushing yards and two touchdowns for Fresno State (1-2), including a 1-yarder for the go-ahead score.
Jake Miller rushed for 145 yards and three touchdowns for North Dakota (1-2). The Fighting Sioux had a chance to take the lead before its final drive stalled near midfield.
The Bulldogs improved to 9-0 against FCS opponents under coach Pat Hill.
Houston 35, Louisiana Tech 34: Case Keenum led Houston to 28 unanswered points in a furious second-half rally to help the Cougars (3-0) defeat the Bulldogs (1-2) at Ruston, La.
Trailing 34-7 near the end of the third quarter, Keenum found Patrick Edwards for a 50-yard touchdown to cut the lead to 34-14. Touchdown runs of 2 and 4 yards by Bryce Beall cut it to 34-28.
With less than 2 minutes remaining, Keenum connected with E.J. Smith for 26 yards, then found Edwards again for a 32-yard touchdown for the go-ahead score.
Nevada 17, San Jose State 14: Mike Ball ran for 124 yards and two touchdowns and Duke Williams intercepted a potential go-ahead pass in the end zone with 1:10 remaining to seal the victory as the Wolf Pack (1-1) topped the Spartans (0-3) in a conference opener at San Jose, Calif.
The Wolf Pack looked in control for most of the game before backup quarterback Matt Faulkner entered late in the third quarter to spark the Spartans.
Faulkner led San Jose State on a touchdown drive that cut Nevada’s lead to 17-14 midway through the fourth and drove the Spartans to the 15 in the closing minutes. But on third-and-9, Williams intercepted a pass in the end zone intended for Chandler Jones.
UTEP 16, New Mexico State 10: Dakota Warren booted three field goals and the Miners (2-1) set up a touchdown with a 60-yard run on a fake punt in a win over the Aggies (1-2) at Las Cruces, N.M.
On the fake punt, the ball was snapped to Joe Banyard, who raced 60 yards to the New Mexico State 6. Moments later, Leilyon Myers scored on a 5-yard run. Warren connected on field goals of 42, 47 and 37 yards. Myers was tough up the middle – 55 yards on 16 carries.
UNLV 40, Hawaii 20: Tim Cornett ran for an 80-yard touchdown and Phillip Payne caught two scoring passes to help the Rebels (1-2) shock the fumble-prone Warriors (1-2) at Las Vegas.
