Surgery Knicks point guard Jeremy Lin has had surgery on his injured left knee, and posted a picture on Twitter of himself recovering in his hospital bed. The Knicks say Lin had successful surgery on a chronic small meniscal tear in his left knee. He is expected to be out about six weeks.

Hired Ohio University plans to introduce Jim Christian as its next men’s basketball coach, hoping he can build on the program’s best NCAA tournament showing in 48 years. Christian coahed Kent State from 2002-08, before moving to TCU. The Bobcats reached the round of 16 in the NCAA tournament under coach John Groce. Groce was hired as Illinois’ head coach last week.

• Central Michigan is hiring Keno Davis as its new men’s basketball coach. Davis replaces Ernie Zeigler, who was fired last month. Davis was AP National Coach of the Year in 2008 at Drake. He then went to Providence, coaching three seasons before being fired last March.

Jim Baron is heading to western New York to coach the men’s basketball program at Canisius College. The move comes a month after Baron was fired after 11 years at Rhode Island.

Crashed Arkansas football coach Bobby Petrino veered off a two-lane highway and crashed his motorcycle during the weekend in Fayetteville, Ark., sending him to a hospital and leaving him in what his family described only as “stable condition.” He is expected to make a full recovery.

Rest After a long season, skier Lindsey Vonn won’t need surgery on her sore knees, just plenty of rest. Tests revealed some fraying of the meniscus in Vonn’s left knee, but no tear. The right knee turned out to be fine. Vonn was bothered by her aching knees during the season, but kept it quiet.

Fined Flyers coach Peter Laviolette was fined $10,000 after calling out Penguins counterpart Dan Bylsma for sending out his checking line late in Philadelphia’s 6-3 win at Pittsburgh on Sunday. Laviolette was upset that the Penguins’ fourth line took a shift shortly after Jakub Voracek’s empty-net goal concluded the scoring. During the shift, Penguins forward Joe Vitale leveled the Flyers’ Daniel Briere, starting a chain of events that saw Laviolette smash a stick over the glass.
