Vote for favorite student project

SPOKANE COUNTY – Spokane Teachers Credit Union’s “Hundred Dollar Project,” asked local high school students “How can you make a difference in the world with only $100?” Six teams of students created projects to answer the question. Their projects were completed during March.

The students submitted YouTube videos highlighting their work. Through Friday, local residents can vote for their favorite project and help the team that created it win $2,500. To view and vote for the projects visit www.hundreddollar project.org/vote/.

Latah Bridge open house today

WEST HILLS – The city of Spokane will host an open house from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Finch Arboretum Woodland Center, 3404 W. Woodland Blvd., to solicit input about rehabilitation options for the Latah Bridge.

The city is studying the bridge, also known as the Sunset Bridge or High Bridge, to determine its condition and ensure its longevity.

EWU dinner, auction set

CHENEY – The 31st annual Killin Dinner, Dance and Auction will be April 28 at the Eastern Washington University Sports and Recreation Center, beginning at 4:30 p.m. The Red-White Spring Football game will be at 2.

The evening will begin with a social hour and auction; dinner will be at 6:15 p.m., followed by presentations and a live auction at 7:15. Dancing will begin at 8. Auction items include a New Orleans jazz and dining experience with Renaissance Pere Marquette; a San Diego Safari for four; and a luxury stay at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas with VIP seating at a top show for two. Other auction items include an EWU vs. Washington State University football VIP package; and a football home opener, EWU vs. Montana, VIP package.

The annual fundraiser is named in honor of Orland Killin, who, along with his wife, Bernice, helped create the event. Killin served as professor, faculty athletic representative and faculty president.

Cost is $100 per person or $700 for a table of eight. Tickets may be purchased at www.goeags.com or by calling (509) 359-2463 or (800) 648-7697. Proceeds from the dinner and auction will benefit Eastern athletics.

COPS sponsors shredding event

NORTHWEST – COPS Northwest, 2215 W. Wellesley Ave., will have a “Protect Your Identity” shred day April 27, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Shredding services will be provided by United Data Security.

Join neighborhood cleanup effort

EMERSON/GARFIELD – The Emerson/Garfield Neighborhood Association will have a neighborhood cleanup day April 28, beginning at 9 a.m.

Residents can bring yard waste to Faith Bible Church, 600 W. Cora Ave., and dispose of it for free. The Salvation Army will have a truck at the church for household donations.

Whitworth group offers spring tea

SPOKANE COUNTY – Whitworth University’s Women’s Auxiliary Spring Tea and Style Show will be Tuesday in the Whitworth Community Presbyterian Church’s Quall Hall, 312 W. Hawthorne Road, at 2 p.m.

Dinner, auction to benefit patient

CHENEY – Friends of Lorna Jarms are hosting a spaghetti dinner and silent auction today at Cheney High School, 450 N. Sixth St., from 5 to 8 p.m.

The family event will raise funds to help pay for Jarms’ medical expenses while she awaits a heart transplant.

A suggested donation is $5 per person and may be made at the door. To make a donation for Jarms, contributions may be sent to the National Foundation for Transplants fund, 5350 Poplar Ave., Suite 430, Memphis, TN 38119. In the memo line write “in honor of Lorna Jarms.” Donations may also be made online at www.transplants.org. Click on “Patients We Help” to find Jarms.

Jazz musicians to visit Holy Names

WEST HILLS – John Paul Shields and Michael Millham will perform “Not Exactly Jazz” on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Holy Names Music Center, 3910 W. Custer Drive, as part of the spring/summer guitar series.

The performance will feature Western, Native, African and Hispanic culture and music.

Tickets are $10, or $5 for students and seniors.

Also this month, Holy Names faculty and students will perform at the fifth annual Community Music Education Benefit and Auction. The concert will be at 7:30 p.m. on Monday at the Martin Woldson Theater at The Fox, 1001 W. Sprague Ave.

The concert will also feature Northwest Opera and the Master Class Jazz Opera.

There will be a silent auction and a raffle for a “Belle Notte” dinner for two at Luigi’s Restaurant with a special serenade of live romantic music.

Proceeds will benefit scholarship and musical outreach programs in the public schools and community centers. The concert is free; donations will be accepted.
