Prominent Tigers

Here are many of the prominent athletes from Lewis and Clark High School:

• Ed Bouchee – Baseball player with Philadelphia Phillies (1955-1960), Chicago Cubs (1960-1961), New York Mets (1961-1962).

• Lance Brigham – Prep All-American basketball player. Currently an orthopedic surgeon in Seattle.

• Jerry Campbell – Nine-time All-Pro Canadian Football Hall of Famer.

• Ray Cattage – Played in two Rose Bowls for Washington, then professionally in USFL.

• Erik Coleman – Cornerback on Washington State Rose Bowl team in 2002 and currently with the Detroit Lions.

• Gail Cogdill – All-Pro receiver with the Detroit Lions (1960-1967), Baltimore Colts (1968), and Atlanta Falcons (1969-1970).

• Peggy Conley - Inducted into the Pacific Northwest Golf Association Hall of Fame.

• Clay Damon – Played basketball at Washington.

• Dwight Damon – Basketball, baseball player at Washington State University and is a pioneer in orthodontic technology.

• Floyd Damon – Played baseball at Washington State.

• Bill Etter – Prep All-American played at Notre Dame in the 1960s and later in CFL.

• Britney Henry – Pac-10 champion and All-American in hammer throw, 2007.

• Briann January – Basketball player at Arizona St., now with WNBA’s Indiana Fever.

• Carl Johnson – Track star at Michigan won 16 conference titles, silver medal in long jump at 1920 Olympics in Antwerp, Belgium.

• Hartley Kruger – Basketball star at the University of Idaho in the 1940s.

• Dan Lynch – All-American offensive guard at Washington State in the early 1980s.

• Bob Minnix – High School all-American football player went on to Notre Dame.

• Rusty Olson – Star defensive end at Washington.

• Mary Lou Petty – Swimmer set world record and six American records and finished 4th in 400-meter freestyle in 1936 Olympics.

• William “Bud” Roffler – 1940s star is considered by many to be the best prep athlete in Spokane history, still holds WSU record of 13 yards per punt return, played defensive back with Green Bay and Philadelphia.

• Dario Romero – Defensive tackle at Eastern Washington, the NFL and CFL.

• Tom Sneva – Race car driver and winner of the Indianapolis 500 in 1983; he finished second on three other occasions.

• Jack Spring – Relief pitcher for nine different major league teams from 1953 to 1965.
