Shadle Park boys defeat Mt. Spokane at district

Kionte Brown scored 22 points as Shadle Park cranked up the defensive intensity in the third quarter and beat Mt. Spokane 68-61 in a District 8 3A game Tuesday night at Shadle Park.

The Highlanders forced nine Wildcats turnovers in the third quarter and outscored Mt. Spokane 16-5.

The Wildcats cut the deficit to five with three minutes left, but couldn’t come any closer.

Stu Stiles scored 14 points and Jordan Weems added 13 for Mt. Spokane (5-17), which saw its season come to an end.

Shadle Park (13-8) will play at University (16-4) on Thursday for the district title. Both teams will advance to the regional tournament.

Idaho 4A Region I

Sandpoint 53, Lakeland 46: Ryan Schwartz made six 3-pointers – including three in the final four minutes – and finished with 27 points as the Bulldogs (8-13) edged the host Hawks (4-17) in Rathdrum. Jackson Olin added 17 points for Sandpoint, which will play at No. 1 Moscow on Thursday. Eric Cooper tallied a team-high 13 points for Lakeland, which will play in a loser-out game on Saturday.

District 9 1B

LaCrosse-Washtucna 62, Garfield-Palouse 51: Darcy Stamper scored 19 points and Austin Summer added 16 as the Tigercats (10-13) beat the Vikings (5-15) in a loser-out game in Endicott. Jesse Lopez scored 14 points and Tyson Lowley added 12 for Garfield-Palouse. LaCrosse-Washtucna advances to play Rosalia in another loser-out game on Friday in Endicott.

Rosalia 62, Pomeroy 44: Craig Nelson scored seven of his game-high 19 points in the fourth and pulled down 10 rebounds as the Spartans (13-10) beat the Pirates (9-12) in Endicott. Riley Bott hit three 3-pointers and finished with a team-high 15 points and Mitch Ruchert added 11 points and nine boards for Pomeroy.

IML

Kellogg 77, Timberlake 54: Nick Serrano scored 19 points and Garret Wendt added 17 as the Wildcats (15-3, 5-2) routed the visiting Tigers (12-6, 4-3). Brian Cronnelly led Timberlake with 15 points.

Bonners Ferry 62, Priest River 52: Alex Awbrey and Andre Zarate scored 12 points apiece and the Badgers (7-9) made 10 of 11 free throws in the fourth quarter to beat the visiting Spartans (5-12). Priest River was led by Andrew Huddleston’s 16 points.

Girls

District 8 3A

Shadle Park 50, Mt. Spokane 43: Aleisha Hathaway made three 3-pointers and finished with 13 points as the Highlanders (14-7) pulled away in the fourth quarter and beat the visiting Wildcats (6-15). Shadle Park outscored Mt. Spokane 20-12 in the fourth to take control. Ashlee Pedersen tallied a team-high 11 points for the Wildcats, who saw their season come to an end. The Highlanders will play at top-seeded University at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

District 7 2A

West Valley 44, East Valley 39: Cassie Finn had 15 points, 10 rebounds and four steals as the Eagles (7-14) held off the Knights’ rally and won at East Valley (11-10). Erin Wallman had 12 points and nine rebounds for East Valley, which outscored West Valley 18-6 in the fourth, but fell short at the end. The Eagles play at Cheney on Thursday. East Valley’s season ended.

Pullman 51, Deer Park 49: Emily Drake and Dakota Wickard combined for 37 points as the Greyhounds (9-11) held on to beat the host Stags (11-10). Danielle Beltrame had 20 points and Tessa Heins added 17 for Deer Park, which is finished for the season. Pullman will play at top-seeded Clarkston on Thursday.

District 9 1B

Garfield-Palouse 37, Pomeroy 32: Kaycie Adair scored 13 points and the Vikings (10-10) overcame a slow start and beat the Pirates (5-15) in Endicott. Torrie Koller scored 12 points and Mackenzie Monahan added 11 for Pomeroy, which is finished for the season. Garfield-Palouse will play St. John-Endicott on Friday at Endicott in another loser-out game.

St. John-Endicott 37, Rosalia 34: Gretchen Van Lith scored 11 of her 17 points in the first half and the Eagles (12-8) held on to beat the Spartans (17-5) in Endicott. Van Lith added nine rebounds and five blocks. Rosalia was led by Briann Maley’s 13 points, nine rebounds and four blocks. Maley finished her career with 1,300 total points.
