LC boys create four-way tie for first place

The tight Greater Spokane League boys basketball race got even tighter Friday night with Lewis and Clark’s 41-39 home victory over Gonzaga Prep. In a game featuring swings of momentum, the final swing went the Tigers way and they created a GSL four-way first place tie at 5-2, with two other teams a game behind. LC (7-2 overall) led 17-8 after a quarter before momentum shifted the Bullpups’ (5-2, 5-4) way for a 35-30 lead after three quarters. Their shooting went cold while LC’s Matt Dovall warmed up, scoring all eight of his points in the fourth quarter, including two timely 3-pointers that, along with timely free throw shooting by Dovall and Brennan Schon, wiped out the deficit. Only player in double figures for the night was Prep’s Ryan Gregory, who finished with 16 points. But his touch deserted him in the final period when Gonzaga scored just four points. Keeping pace with the pair at the top of the league are University (7-2 overall) and Central Valley (6-3). Ferris and Shadle Park (both 4-3, 6-3) are right behind. Central Valley 60, Rogers 58: Anthony Brommer, who led all scorers with 19 points, saved his biggest basket for last, a rebound putback in the waning seconds to win the game. The visiting Bears came back from a seven point halftime deficit and the game stayed close until the end. The Pirates (3-4, 4-4) tied the score at the line with 14 seconds left, but to no avail. Steve Delvecchio led them with 18 points. University 70, Mt. Spokane 40: The Titans didn’t need outside shooting to win this game. They hauled down 15 offensive rebounds and forced 20 turnovers to lead the Wildcats (1-6, 2-7) 40-17 at halftime. Brett Bailey, with 17 points was one of four U-Hi double figures scorers. Shadle Park 68, North Central 55: The Highlanders blew to a 40-19 lead at halftime to put the contest away. Four players finished in double figures, Skyler Kelley and Brett Boese combining for 34. Ferris 75, Mead 41: The Saxons outscored the Panthers (1-6, 1-8) 23-2 in the third-quarter to pull away. Chris Wilson carried the load, scoring 36 points, nearly half of Ferris’s total, and had four of the team’s 10 3-pointers..
