BOX, Melany Lynn (Slechta)

Passed away suddenly and unexpectedly of a massive brain bleed on January 17th, 2012.

Her wish was to be an organ donor and as her final legacy, she was able to give the gift of life and sight.

Melany was born on July 12th, 1960 Ritzville, WA to parents Dale DeWayne Slechta and Marla Jo (Doerschlag) Slechta.

She lived in Sprague, WA until 1974 and then moved to Deer Park, WA.

She graduated from Deer Park High School in 1978 and was married to Douglas Craig Box on May 11th, 1979.

She was blessed with a baby girl, Jessi Jo, on Dec 3rd, 1980.

Melany worked for Deer Park School District for 10 years as a behavior specialist then opened her own sewing business, Nip and Tuck, where she worked as a seamstress and craftswoman until her death.

Melany loved gardening, sewing, crafts, reading and taking care of her animals.

Along with her regular pets, she would save any animal in need, and lovingly nurture it back to health.

This included birds, ferrets, dogs, cats and even bunnies.

She is preceded in death by her father Dale Slechta, her sister Rachel Slechta, and her grandparents Ralph and Jessie Doerschlag.

Melany is survived by her mother, Marla Jo Dittrich and her step-father, Gerald Dittrich, her husband Doug Box, her daughter Jessi Jo Box, her sister Dana Ryan (Kyle), her nephew Collin Ryan, her brother-in-law Robert Box and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to Spokanimal or the Humane Society; Spokanimal, 710 North Napa Street Spokane, WA 99202-2867; Humane Society, 6607 North Havana Street,Spokane, WA 99217-7499.

A Memorial Service in honor of Melany will be held at 2p.m.

on Friday, January 27th at St Mark’s Lutheran Church, 316 E. 24th Ave., Spokane, WA 99203 DANEKAS FUNERAL HOME and CREMATORY-RITZVILLE is entrusted with arrangements.
