Filed Suspended New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton and his wife of nearly 20 years have filed dueling divorce petitions in Texas. Payton filed a petition in district court near Fort Worth seeking a divorce from Beth Payton on June 14. It lists the grounds as “discord or conflict of personalities” and seeks to divide the couple’s assets and provide for joint custody of their two children. Beth Payton filed a counter petition on June 26 requesting that she receive primary custody of the children and exclusive rights to make other decisions, such as those concerning their medical care and education, on their behalf.
Resigned Texas Southern University men’s basketball coach Tony Harvey resigned. TSU had a 58-72 record since Harvey’s hiring in 2008.
Included The 12-player U.S. women’s volleyball team includes 39-year-old Danielle Scott-Arruda, making her the squad’s first five-time Olympian. Other repeat Olympians named to the squad include setter Lindsey Berg, outside hitter Logan Tom and opposite Tayyiba Haneef-Park. Newcomers include opposite Destinee Hooker and outside hitter Jordan Larson. The U.S. women’s team is ranked No. 1 in the world going into the London Games.
Activated The Los Angeles Galaxy activated Omar Gonzalez, the reigning Major League Soccer defender of the year.
Hired The International Tennis Hall of Fame in has hired an attorney to investigate allegations that former doubles champion Bob Hewitt sexually abused girls he coached, an inquiry that could result in his expulsion or suspension from the Hall. A spokesman for the Hall of Fame said an attorney is interviewing people who say they were abused by Hewitt, who played in the 1960s and 1970s and was inducted into the Hall in 1992.
Signed Montana State University signed women’s basketball coach Tricia Binford to a new three-year contract. Binford’s 103 wins give her the most victories in the history of the university’s women’s basketball program. Her teams have made six straight appearances in postseason tournaments.
