Indians set 2012 roster
Baseball: Gonzaga University outfielder Royce Bolinger is among 29 players assigned to the Spokane Indians, the Texas Rangers announced Monday.
The Indians open Northwest League play Friday at Avista Stadium against the Vancouver Canadians.
The Indians will receive 11 players from the 2012 MLB first-year player draft, including pitcher Alec Asher from Polk State College, University of Texas-Arlington outfielder Preston Beck, and second baseman Cam Schiller from Oral Roberts University.
Additional 2012 draft picks reporting to Spokane include pitchers Joseph Burns, Coby Cowgill, Ryan Harvey, Cody Kendall, Josh McElwee, and infielders Gabriel Roa and Barrett Serrato.
Returning players from the Indians 2011 roster include Richard Alvarez, John Kukuruda, Carlos Melo, David Perez, Ryan Rua, Nick Urbanus, Nick Vickerson, and Hirotoshi Onaka.
Tim Hulett returns for his sixth season as Indians manager, and will be assisted by hitting coach Oscar Bernard, pitching coach Ryan O’Malley, coach Vinny Lopez, trainer Sean Fields and strength and conditioning coach Ed Yong.
Team workouts begin today at Avista Stadium and are open to the public.
EWU finalizes game times
Football: Game times for Eastern Washington University’s home football games this fall have been finalized, according to Eastern athletic director Bill Chaves.
Eastern’s home opener against Montana on Sept. 29 will begin at 4:05 p.m. Pacific time and will be televised regionally by Root Sports. Eastern’s game on Oct. 6 versus North Dakota on Hall of Fame Day at EWU will begin at 5:05 p.m., and homecoming on Oct. 20 against Sacramento State will start at 4:05.
Eastern’s remaining games versus Cal Poly on Military Appreciation Day on Nov. 3 and Senior Day on Nov. 10 against UC Davis will begin at 1:35 p.m.
