Simpson delivers baby girl, Maxwell

From Wire Reports

The Jessica Simpson baby watch is finally over.

Simpson gave birth to a daughter named Maxwell Drew Johnson in Los Angeles on Tuesday, said publicist Lauren Auslander. Maxwell weighed 9 pounds, 13 ounces.

Since announcing her pregnancy last Halloween over Twitter, Simpson posed nude for the cover of Elle magazine, shared her cravings and joked about her excess of amniotic fluid on “Jimmy Kimmel Live.”

Maxwell is the first child for 31-year-old Simpson and her 32-year-old fiance Eric Johnson, a former NFL player.

The name is a tribute to the couple’s families: Maxwell is Johnson’s middle name and the maiden name of his mother, and Drew is Simpson’s mother’s maiden name.

Family, friends remember late Wallace

Chris Wallace turned and blew a kiss to a giant portrait of his father, “60 Minutes” journalist Mike Wallace, after memorializing him Tuesday as “the best journalist I have ever known.”

Former colleagues, friends and family members swapped stories about Wallace in an auditorium a few blocks from where he worked. Mike Wallace died at age 93 on April 7.

Some of the stories were flattering, some less so. “Let’s be honest, at some point in time not just Morley (Safer), not just Ed (Bradley), many people in this room were not speaking to my father,” Chris Wallace said.

Beatle’s widow releases digital book

George Harrison’s widow Olivia hopes to add more perspective on the reticent Beatle with her new digital book, and fill in the blanks left by Martin Scorsese’s recent documentary.

Based on Scorsese’s “George Harrison: Living in the Material World,” the multitouch book of the same name is available Tuesday at the iTunes bookstore.

In a telephone interview from London, Olivia Harrison, who served as one of the film’s producers, said she loved the message of the film, but felt it didn’t cover her husband’s other “sides.”

“Marty chose the music for the narrative and it drives the story. I think he fit the music perfectly in there, but there’s was a point when I realized, ‘Oh wow, we’re not going to get past 1975,’ ” Harrison said. She noted the absence of the song “Taxman” and his 1987 comeback album, “Cloud Nine.”
