Rogers, EV advance

Seedings didn’t hold in the first round of the Greater Spokane League slowpitch softball playoffs on Monday as No. 5 Rogers and No. 6 East Valley won on the road to advance to today’s semifinals.

Rogers (8-9) knocked off No. 4 North Central (10-7) 10-4, icing it on Salota Hensene’s three-run homer in the seventh inning. EV (7-10) got solid defense from shortstop Kaileene Krauth and outfielder Tori Feistner, combined with a five-run seventh inning, to beat No. 3 Lewis and Clark (11-6) 8-3.

Rogers is at No. 2 Central Valley (14-2) and EV at No. 1 University (16-0) at 4 p.m. today with the winners advancing to Thursday’s championship game.

College golf

CC Spokane’s men and women won their divisions of the Walla Walla Invitational Monday at Wine Valley Golf Club with one medalist and a runner-up.

Sophomore Cindy Pitkin was women’s medalist with a 167 to lead CCS to a 532-537 margin over host Walla Walla.

Freshman Cole Lorenzo was second by a stroke in the men’s with a 142 as the Sasquatch had four of the top six scorers in a 569-575 win over Walla Walla.

• With freshman Oliver Rudnicki tying for third at 5-over 149, the Whitworth men tied for third in the Pacific Lutheran Invitational at Chambers Bay with a 36-hole total of 624, 48 shots back of the winning hosts.
