In brief: Walk to help AIDS network

RIVERSIDE – The Spokane AIDS Walk will be Sept. 29 at Riverfront Park, beginning at 11 a.m. Registration will be at 10 at the North Bank Shelter.

The three-mile walk will benefit the Spokane AIDS Network and the event will include music, refreshments and prizes for the top three individuals and top team raising the most funds.

Registration is available online at www.SpokaneAIDS.org. Participants can register as individuals, form a team, or join an existing team. Cost is $20 for adults and $15 for children. Each participant will receive a Spokane AIDS Walk T-shirt.

Cancer group plans vigil

CLIFF/CANNON – American Childhood Cancer Organization Inland Northwest will have its 15th annual Childhood Cancer Awareness Vigil on Sept. 30 at Glover Mansion, 321 W. Eighth Ave., from 6 to 8 p.m.

The vigil will feature Spokane Mayor David Condon, followed by a candle lighting ceremony. Light refreshments will also be served. September is National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and each year the ACCOIN honors all children who have or have had cancer with a candle lighting vigil to raise awareness.
