Balanced Bears knock off Indians

Balance was a theme for the two-time defending Greater Spokane League champion Central Valley boys basketball team Tuesday.

Four players reached double-figure scoring as the Bears handled the visiting North Central Indians 63-44 in a league opener.

Beau Byus led CV with a double-double, scoring 18 points to go with 12 rebounds.

Adam Chamberlain added 15 points, A.J. Knudsen had 13 and Justin Fayant chipped in 11.

Marcus Saugen led NC with 14 points and eight rebounds.

Ferris 56, Mt. Spokane 39: The Saxons outscored the visiting Wildcats 32-15 during the second and third quarters to pull away in the league opener.

Cody Benzel led Ferris with 29 points. Stu Stiles led the Wildcats with 18.

University 66, Rogers 44: The visiting Titans raced to a 42-16 halftime lead and didn’t look back in the league opener.

Dray White led U-Hi with 14 points and Michael Isotalo added 13.

Robert Rucker scored a game-high 15 points for Rogers.

Gonzaga Prep 53, Lewis and Clark 40: The visiting Bullpups built as much as a 13-point lead twice in the fourth quarter in the league opener.

LC pulled within 37-31 but Bullpups post Jack Hunter scored four points and had a key block that helped G-Prep keep a comfortable margin.

The Bullpups made 12 of 15 foul shots in the fourth.

Reed Hopkins led with 12 points and Sam Dowd and Brendan McClary had 10 each.
