GU to host CPR training event

From Staff Reports

Community members are invited to a free hands-only CPR training event Saturday.

Half-hour training sessions will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Gonzaga University’s Cataldo Hall, 429 E. Boone Ave.

Participants will watch a short video and see a demonstration, then practice the CPR technique.

About 935,000 Americans suffer heart attacks every year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The national guidelines for cardiopulmonary resuscitation have changed in recent years. Hands-only CPR requires fewer steps – no pulse check or mouth-to-mouth required – which safety officials hope will lead more people to perform it.

The training event is being organized by Providence Health & Services, American Medical Response and Gonzaga.
