TV Notes: Bacon makes series debut in ‘Following’

Chuck Barney Mcclatchy-Tribune

Don’t miss

“THE FOLLOWING”: Kevin Bacon makes his prime-time series debut in this grisly and gritty thriller from Kevin Williamson (“The Vampire Diaries”). Bacon plays a burned-out former FBI agent who is called back into action after a psychotic serial killer (James Purefoy) he once captured escapes from prison. And now, the killer seems to have built a network of believers willing to obey his every command. Warning: This series is highly graphic in nature. 9 p.m. Monday, Fox.

Other bets

Tonight: Don’t expect the angst to ease on “Girls” just because Lena Dunham and her show hit the jackpot at the Golden Globes last week. Tonight, her character, Hannah, has her writing slammed by her boyfriend (Donald Glover). 9 p.m., HBO.

Tonight: “Chasing the Saturdays” is a new reality series that follows the popular all-female British vocal group as they invade Hollywood and begin work on a new album. 10 p.m., E!

MONDAY: There’s trouble in paradise on “Hawaii Five-0” as McGarrett (Alex O’Loughlin) and the team investigate the murder of a prostitute whose body is found in the bed of a missing congressman. 10 p.m., CBS.

TUESDAY: In the premiere of “The Taste,” a cooking competition show, 29 cooks audition for 16 spots by preparing dishes to be rated by celebrity chefs Anthony Bourdain, Nigella Lawson, Ludo Lefebvre and Brian Malarkey. 8 p.m., ABC.

TUESDAY: Wedded bliss on “Private Practice”? It certainly appears that way as Addison (Kate Walsh) and Jake (Benjamin Bratt) take a walk down the aisle on the series finale of the soapy medical drama. 10 p.m., ABC.

WEDNESDAY: Former tennis greats Chris Evert and Lindsay Davenport guest star as themselves on an episode of “CSI” in which a professional tennis player is found dead inside a ball-firing machine. 10 p.m., CBS.

THURSDAY: Who said TV was fair? “Last Resort” was one of the most acclaimed new shows of the fall, but, sadly, the ratings never matched the hype. Tonight, the submarine drama starring Andre Braugher makes its final voyage, 8 p.m., ABC.

THURSDAY: Is “Project Runway” still in fashion? The reality series returns for its 11th season with 16 new contestants and one new judge – Zac Posen, who replaces Michael Kors. 9 p.m., Lifetime.

FRIDAY: “Shakespeare Uncovered” is an excellent new series that tells the stories behind the Bard’s greatest plays by combining history, fresh analysis and the personal passions of individual hosts. In the opener, Ethan Hawke dissects “Macbeth.” 9 p.m., KCDT, 10 p.m. KSPS.

SATURDAY: Athletic skills blend with artistic grace in the U.S. Figure Skating Championships. 8 p.m., NBC.
