Obituary: Reid, Thomas James, Jr.

REID, Thomas James, Jr. Thomas James Reid, Jr., left the shadow lands and entered his real home on March 12, 2013; 22 days shy of his 92nd birthday.

Born in Wenatchee, WA in 1921 he graduated from Wenatchee High School in 1938.

At the outbreak of World War II, when he went to the Bremerton Naval Shipyard as a civilian in the sheet metal shop he met a cute girl in the tool cage named Gayle.

In December of 1943, Tom enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps becoming a radar repairman.

Tom and Gayle married in March of 1945, just before he deployed to Guam working on B-29s.

Returning home a father in 1946, his young family settled in East Wenatchee.

He worked at Reid Pump and Supply where he would continue working until his retirement in 1984.

After retiring Tom and Gayle lived several places in the Wenatchee and Cashmere valleys before moving to the Spokane area in 1994.

He remained active in church, his family and a neighborhood Bible study until shortly before his death.

The past couple of years slowed him down some, but not his desire to tell anyone about Christ.

On February 28th, he lost his balance, fracturing his hip in the process.

After almost 92 years, his body just could not handle the complications of the injury.

He closed this life singing hymns and quoting scripture, specifically Romans 8:28.

Catching up to daughter, Janet, brother, William (“Bill”) and three sisters: Elizabeth Halverson, Ethel Jacobsen and Pat Owens, he leaves behind his wife of 68 years; four children; 16 grandchildren; ten great-grand- children; and two sisters, Marjorie Rerucha and Glenna Atwood.

Services will be held at Heritage Funeral Home, Spokane, WA, at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2013.
