Whits select Boedecker

Former University of Idaho standout Kati Bodecker will take over as head coach of the Whitworth University volleyball team.

Bodecker, formerly Kati Tikker, served as the head volleyball coach at Priest River High School for the past six years. She led the Spartans to five state tournament appearances.

Bodecker, a graduate of Lakeside High in Nine Mile Falls, is eighth all-time in kills per set at Idaho.

Baseball

Gonzaga (13-6-1, 3-1) gave starter Marco Gonzales all he needed with six runs in the first inning and the Bulldogs topped No. 25 San Diego (14-7, 3-1) 6-2 in a West Coast Conference contest in Spokane.

Cabe Reiten hit a two-run double in GU’s first-inning surge.

Gonzales improved to 4-1 on the season after giving up five hits and a run while striking out nine in seven innings.

• Joe Pistorese stymied Brown (1-7) over seven innings and Washington State (12-8) cruised to an 8-2 nonconference win in Pullman.

Pistorese gave up one earned run on seven hits while striking out a career-high seven batters.

Track and field

Led by Carter Comito and Keegan Shea, the Whitworth men took first place at the Buc Scoring Invite in Spokane.

Comito tied the track record in the discus, reaching a distance of 193 feet, 1 inch. The throw was the best among Division III competitors this season, .

Shea’s hammer throw of 186-10 broke the school record and was the third best in Division III this season.

The Whitworth women, led by Christina Dobbins’ win in the heptathlon, took second place.

• Anna Adamko led the Washington State women with a second-place finish in the javelin at the Trojan Invitational in Los Angeles.

Adamko recorded a personal-best throw of 161-5, sixth-best in school history.
