Guthrie gets NCAA nod
Whitworth’s Emily Guthrie was selected for her second consecutive at-large bid to play as an individual at the NCAA Division III Women’s Golf Championships.
Guthrie, a senior from Snohomish, Wash., will be competing in the event for the third time. She finished tied for 50th as a freshman and 20th last year.
The tournament is May 14-17 at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort in Destin, Fla.
Baseball
Whitworth’s Tyler Pfeffer was named first team All-Northwest Conference for the second straight season.
The Pirates’ Gerhard Muelheims and Jeremy Druffel were named to the second team, while five other Whitworth players received honorable mentions.
Pfeffer, a junior outfielder from Shadle Park High School, hit .386 and led the Pirates in RBIs (32) and slugging percentage (.500). He also handled 58 defensive chances in left field without an error.
Muelheims was named to the second team for a second straight season. Druffel, a freshman, appeared in all 40 games.
• Washington State allowed two home runs in a 7-5 nonconference loss at Portland.
Adam Nelubowich went 2 for 4 with two RBIs for the Cougars (20-24), who lost for the seventh time in eight games.
WSU visits USC for a three-game series starting Friday.
