Vandals’ Kiser places 16th at West regional

Idaho senior Hannah Kiser placed 16th overall to lead the Vandals at the NCAA West Region Cross Country Championships on Friday at the Haggin Oaks Golf Course in Sacramento, Calif.

Kiser timed 20 minutes, 4 seconds over the course to lead the Idaho women, who finished 19th in the field of 32 teams.

Finishing in the top-25 puts Kiser in position to be considered for an individual selection to the NCAA Championships, which will be held next Saturday at Terre Haute, Ind. Kiser must wait until Sunday’s championships selection to find out if her season continues. She’s hoping to make her second appearance at the NCAA Cross Country Championships. Kiser last appeared at the meet as a sophomore where she finished 85th overall.

Arizona won the women’s regional team title. Washington, led by the fourth-place finish of Katie Flood, placed fifth; Washington State was 14th and Gonzaga 17th.

Stanford won the men’s team championship with Washington State eighth, Washington ninth, Gonzaga a school-best 11th and Eastern Washington 20th.
