Awarded Barcelona forward Lionel Messi has been presented with his third Golden Boot award for scoring the most goals in Europe’s domestic leagues last season. The 26-year-old Messi helped Barcelona win the 2012-13 Spanish league title by scoring 46 goals despite missing several games with a right hamstring pull near the end of the season.

Extended FIFA has extended the Ballon d’Or voting deadline until Nov. 29, improving Cristiano Ronaldo’s chances of winning after his three-goal performance for Portugal in World Cup qualifying. FIFA extended the contest after too many voters failed to meet the original voting window of Oct. 28-Nov. 15.

Possible New IOC president Thomas Bach said there is a possibility baseball and softball could be included in the program for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. The sports, dropped from the 2012 program after a 2005 vote by the IOC, failed in a bid to be reinstated for the Olympic program for 2020 and 2024 at an IOC vote in September, but Tokyo’s winning bid has refueled calls for them to be included in Japan.

Tightened Britain’s horse racing body said trainers could face doping sanctions without a positive sample from a horse. The tightening of the rules starting next month follows an inves- tigation into the use of Sungate, which is legal in Britain but contains a banned steroid.

Kicked Video of an incident involving Manny Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach shows Roach being kicked in the upper body by Alex Ariza, a member of Brandon Rios’ camp, following a heated argument with Rios’ trainer Robert Garcia. Roach and Garcia were set to appear at a joint news conference with both boxers in Macau.

Hired The ATP has hired former player and coach Chris Kermode to be its executive chairman and president. Kermode will begin his three-year term on Jan. 1.

Died Former football coach Frank Lauterbur, who led Toledo to two undefeated seasons (1969-70) before leaving to take over at Iowa for three seasons, has died. The cause of death wasn’t released. He was 88.
