Colton’s Jake Straughan throws perfect game

Jake Straughan pitched a perfect game, striking out 14 batters, and Colton defeated Lake Roosevelt 5-0 in a nonleague baseball game in Moses Lake on Friday.

Straughan struck out the side in the first, fourth and sixth innings. Freshman right fielder Grant Kinzer made a diving catch in the second inning to deny Lake Roosevelt’s best chance at a hit.

“He was just dominant,” Colton coach Pat Doumit said of Straughan, who had not thrown for two weeks. “Normally, you don’t see a guy that sharp after a short layoff. … To be as sharp as he was was awful impressive.”
