Cougar women erased from Pac-12 tennis tournament

Five Washington State Cougars failed to make it out of the first round of the Pac-12 tennis championships on Thursday at the Ojai Athletic Club in Ojai, Calif.

Junior Elizaveta Luzina nearly pulled off an upset for the Cougars in the women’s championship draw. Luzina squared off against 19th-seeded Anett Schutting of California. After dropping the first set, Luzina stormed back to win the second 6-4 and led the final set 3-1. But Schutting closed out the match by winning five straight points to post a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 victory.

The championships resume today with first-round doubles and consolation singles.
