People: Guitarist Weir cancels tour dates

From Wire Reports

Guitarist Bob Weir is canceling all of the tour dates he had planned through January.

The Grateful Dead founder says his tour with his other band, RatDog, won’t kick off this week as planned. He posted a message Sunday on RatDog’s website saying “circumstances have necessitated that all scheduled tour dates for Bob Weir & RatDog are being cancelled.”

The 66-year-old didn’t offer more details.

Weir also is canceling a September performance at the Lockn’ Festival with Furthur, the band he formed with fellow Grateful Dead member Phil Lesh. Weir fell onstage at a concert last year. Lesh told the crowd that Weir had been suffering from a strained shoulder.

Goldblum bringing jazz act to N.Y.

Jeff Goldblum is coming back to New York but not to act – he’ll be singing. The Cafe Carlyle said the “Jurassic Park” and “The Fly” star will perform Sept. 16-20 with his jazz band, The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra.

The actor has sung and played piano with the band for years but the new dates mark their New York premiere. They’re named for a friend of Goldblum’s family and play improvised versions of jazz standards like “Summertime” or “The Sidewinder.”

The legendary lounge inside the Hotel Carlyle on Manhattan’s Upper East Side is where Elaine Stritch, Chita Rivera and Bobby Short have performed.

Stone shopping for fishnets, bowler?

Emma Stone, who last year abandoned appearing in the Broadway revival of “Cabaret,” might still be in need of fishnets and a bowler hat.

Roundabout Theatre Company said Monday that Stone is in negotiations to make her Broadway debut as Sally Bowles. She would take over from Michelle Williams, who has extended her run as Bowles opposite Alan Cumming through Nov. 9.

Set in 1931 Berlin, “Cabaret” centers on the world of the indulgent Kit Kat Klub as it becomes intertwined with the world outside, which gets more precarious as Nazis take over. The songs by John Kander and Fred Ebb include “Willkommen” and “Tomorrow Belongs to Me.”

Williams stepped into the role, once played by Liza Minnelli, when Stone had to withdraw due to scheduling conflicts.
