Boys basketball: Dante Clayton, Terron Standifer lead EV to OT win

Dante Clayton’s 3-pointer with 5 seconds left in overtime lifted East Valley past Freeman 70-69 in a nonleague game Tuesday night at East Valley.

The Knights’ Terron Standifer hit a game-tying 3-pointer at the buzzer in regulation to force OT.

Clayton finished with 21 points and nine rebounds and Mike Jensen added 11 points and 11 boards for EV (2-1).

Four Freeman (2-1) players scored in double digits. Ryan Maine tallied a team-high 17 and Jake Paukert added 16.

Lakeland 54, West Valley 39: Tyrel Derrick had 20 points and four assists and Jake Ram added 16 points as the Hawks (3-0) took charge in the second half and beat the Eagles (2-2) in Rathdrum. Lakeland outscored WV 30-19 in the second half. Jay Plunkett added seven points and seven assists for the Hawks. Martin Hereford scored 20 points for West Valley, which cut the deficit to six in the fourth before Derrick made two 3-pointers to seal the win for Lakeland.

Kellogg 56, Sandpoint 48: Gus Colburn hit all eight of his free-throw attempts and finished with a game-high 17 points as the Wildcats (3-0) topped the visiting Bulldogs (3-2). Tucker Gust added 12 points and Tobias Colburn chipped in 10 for Kellogg.

Cheney 51, Deer Park 48: The Blackhawks (2-2) held off the Stags’ late rally and won in Deer Park. Brett Wyborney scored 10 points and J.T. Gould and Nicholas Hohrmon added eight apiece for Cheney. The Stags (2-1), who outscored Cheney 15-7 in the fourth to make it close, got 13 points from Carter Countryman and 11 from Connor Markham.

Lakeside (WA) 86, St. George’s 48: Ryan Quigley scored 21 points, grabbed nine rebounds and blocked three shots to guide the Eagles (2-1) to a win over the host Dragons (3-1). Cameron Gay added 17 points for Lakeside. Cody Peplinski led St. George’s with 16 points.

Newport 61, Priest River 44: Ty McDaniel had 18 points and six rebounds and the Grizzlies (2-1) forced 21 turnovers in a win over the host Spartans (0-4). Kyler Zorica added 15 points for Newport.

Medical Lake 68, Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 52: Cory Wagner made 5 of 5 3-pointers and scored 23 of his game-high 31 points in the first half and the Cardinals (1-1) topped the Broncos (1-1) in Ritzville. Jealon Smith added 15 points for Medical Lake. Wyatt Roettger led LRS with 16 points and six rebounds and Jacob Saetre hit three triples as part of his 13 points.

Riverside 61, Timberlake 44: Tyler Axtell had 22 points and six steals and the Rams (3-0) used a 19-5 first-quarter run to beat the visiting Tigers (0-5). Andrew Kramer chipped in 13 points and 10 rebounds for Riverside.

Colfax 63, Colton 32: The Bulldogs (2-0) opened the game on a 21-4 run and cruised past the visiting Wildcats (0-1). Kasey Johnson scored 13 points and Keith Gfeller and Mark Webber each added 12 for Colfax. Grant Kinzer led Colton with a game-high 16 points.

College Place 57, Oakesdale 54: College Place used a strong fourth-quarter effort to get past the host Nighthawks (0-1). Nico Romero tallied a game-high 24 points for College Place, which outscored Oakesdale 17-10 in the fourth. CP made 10 of 13 from the free-throw line, while Oakesdale made just 12 of 25. Tanner Dingman tossed in a team-high 18 points for the Nighthawks.

Wilbur-Creston 60, Almira/Coulee-Hartline 56 (2 OT): Jacob Clark hit a 3-pointer late in the second overtime and the Wildcats (3-0) topped the Warriors (2-1) in Wilbur. Colton Magers led Wilbur-Creston with 26 points. Dallas Isaak topped ACH with 23 points.

Chewelah 64, Springdale 49: Liam Borzik scored 10 points and Chayse Frizzell and Owen Baldwin each added nine as the Cougars (1-3) defeated the visiting Chargers (2-2). Chewelah led by 13 points at the half. John Lynch tallied a game-high 18 points for Springdale.

Curlew 66, Columbia 26: Coby Grumbach and Hunter Beedle combined for 28 points and the Cougars (3-0) routed the Lions (0-2) in Hunters. Mathan Knapp added 10 points for Curlew, which led 35-11 at halftime. Grant Jones scored a team-high nine points for the Lions.

Republic 73, Omak 53: The Tigers (1-0) opened the game on a 26-3 run and eased past the visiting Pioneers. Aaron Fritts had 24 points and 10 rebounds and Taylor Campbell added 16 points for Republic.

Liberty 80, Valley Christian 34: Match Burnham scored 25 points and Clay Fleming added 13 as the Lancers (2-0) forced 30 turnovers in an easy win over the host Panthers (0-3). Liberty went ahead 22-6 in the first quarter to essentially put the game away. The Lancers committed just seven turnovers.

Selkirk 51, Kettle Falls 41: Cole Dawson scored all 11 of his points after halftime as the Rangers (2-0) pulled away and beat the visiting Bulldogs (0-3). Jacob Couch led Selkirk with a game-high 18 points and Dominic Cain added nine points and 11 rebounds. Cole Wren led Kettle Falls with 18 points.
