Burnham paces Liberty win

Match Burnham has been carrying more than his share of the load for Liberty all season, and it was more of the same on Friday night.

The senior scored 30 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and Liberty notched a key Northeast 2B South victory over host St. George’s, beating the Dragons 66-55.

Burnham has now scored at least 25 points in five of the Lancers’ seven games this season. He made 10 of 11 free throws against the Dragons.

Liberty (6-1, 4-0) jumped ahead by 16 points at halftime and did enough in the second half to hold off a charge by St. George’s.

The Dragons (4-3, 1-2) cut the Lancers’ lead to seven in the final minute, but Liberty made 8 of 9 free throws in the fourth and 18 for 21 for the game to secure the win.

Cody Peplinski scored 14 points and Collin Cremers added 12 points and eight rebounds for St. George’s.

Colfax 57, Lind-Ritzville 44: Keith Gfeller scored 19 points and the Bulldogs (4-2, 2-1) pulled away in the fourth and beat the visiting Broncos (3-3, 1-2). Kasey Johnson added 15 points for Colfax.

Northeast A

Riverside 65, Freeman 58: Tyler Axtell scored nine of his game-high 27 points in the fourth quarter and the Rams (6-0, 3-0) edged the host Scotties (2-4, 0-3). Axtell also had six assists and five rebounds. Andrew Kramer added 15 points and Kevin Huggins chipped in eight points and 13 rebounds for Riverside. For Freeman, Jack Paukert had 17 points.

Medical Lake 67, Deer Park 38: Corey Wagner and Tellas Johnson combined for 22 points in the decisive third quarter and the Cardinals (5-1, 3-0) blew past the visiting Stags (3-4, 1-2). Medical Lake outscored Deer Park 30-5 in the third period. Deer Park’s Nate Guske led all scorers with 18 points.

Colville 61, Chewelah 33: Sam Artzis scored 20 points and the Indians (3-2, 3-0) beat the host Cougars (1-6, 1-2). Eli Hubert led Chewelah with 11 points.

Northeast 2B North

Northwest Christian 59, Springdale 46: Asher Cox made 7 of 7 free throws and scored 15 of his game-high 25 points in the fourth quarter as the Crusaders (6-1, 4-0) topped the visiting Chargers (4-4, 2-2). Nathan Sander added 19 points for Northwest Christian.

Davenport 65, Kettle Falls 26: Cameron Umble and Austin Zeller scored 12 points apiece to lead the Gorillas’ balanced attack and Davenport (2-4, 1-3) topped the host Bulldogs (0-7, 0-4). The Gorillas grabbed 22 offensive rebounds and forced 16 turnovers.

Northeast 1B North

Curlew 50, Selkirk 40: Coby Grumbach led three players in double figures with 15 points and the Cougars (6-1, 3-1) defeated the host Rangers (4-2, 2-2). Curlew held a 37-28 rebounding advantage. Selkirk’s Dominic Cain posted a game-high 17 points.

Republic 71, Inchelium 54: Aaron Fritts scored 24 points and Taylor Campbell added 22 as the Tigers (3-2, 2-2) forced 38 turnovers in a win over the host Hornets (1-4, 1-4). Republic led by 31 before letting up in the final quarter. Kenny Malone led Inchelium with 13 points.

Odessa-Harrington 65, Valley Christian 43: Sam Schafer and Shane Whitaker scored 15 points apiece as the Titans (2-4, 2-1) eased past the Panthers (1-6, 1-2) in Harrington. Casen Weber added 14 points and five steals and Colt Sanford chipped in eight points and nine rebounds for O-H. Chase Strunk made four 3-pointers and led Valley Christian with 12 points.

Northeast 1B South

Wellpinit 75, Columbia 19: Jason Holt scored 18 points and Triston Andrews added 12 points and 10 rebounds as the Redskins (4-1, 2-1) routed the visiting Lions (0-4, 0-2). Wellpinit came away with 20 steals.

Southeast 1B

St. John-Endicott 50, LaCrosse-Washtucna/Kahlotus 33: Caleb Hudson led a balanced attack with 10 points and the Eagles (3-3, 1-1) took control in the fourth and beat the Tigercats in Washtucna. Chance Rice led LWK with a game-high 11 points.

Pomeroy 59, Oakesdale 37: Cole Mayfield and Tyson Feider combined for 32 points and the Pirates (6-1, 2-0) dominated from the opening tip in a win over the host Nighthawks (0-5, 0-2). Oakesdale’s Tanner Dingman scored 11 points.

Garfield-Palouse 73, Touchet 22: Tyler Thurman scored 17 points and Mitch Jamison added 11 points and 10 rebounds, including five offensive boards, and the Vikings (6-0, 3-0) dumped the visiting Indians. Garfield-Palouse forced 23 turnovers while committing just seven of its own.

Nonleague

Post Falls 61, Lakeland 37: Max McCullough scored 15 points and Dalton Thompson added 13 as the Trojans (6-0) took control after halftime and beat the visiting Hawks (6-1). Tyrel Derrick tallied a game-high 23 points for Lakeland.

West Valley 72, Timberlake 40: Martin Herford scored a season-high 30 points on 10-of-18 shooting and the Eagles (3-2) soared after halftime and dumped the visiting Tigers (0-7). West Valley’s four-point halftime lead ballooned to 24 after a 29-9 third-quarter run. The Eagles’ Brandon Ray added eight points and 12 rebounds, including 10 offensive boards.

Newport 79, Lakeside (ID) 39: Kyler Zorica scored 21 points and Ty McDaniel added 19 points and 10 rebounds as the Grizzlies (5-3) routed the visiting Knights (4-3). Lakeside’s Jordan Nilson tallied a team-high 14 points.
