Boys roundup: Jacobs’ 3-pointers guide East Valley

East Valley’s Tanner Jacobs hit two 3-pointers in the final minute, including the winner with 2 seconds left, and the Knights edged Colville 57-54 in a Great Northern League boys basketball game Friday night at East Valley.

Jacobs hit a 3 with 35 seconds left to put East Valley ahead by two. After Tevyn Holling made a pair of free throws to tie it up, the Knights ran another play for Jacobs, who made the winner.

Jacobs finished with 11 points. Mason Tidd made 4 of 6 3-pointers and finished with a team-high 14 points for East Valley (10-7, 5-4).

Tevyn Holling scored 15 points and Matt Hubbard added 14 points and 14 rebounds for Colville (8-6, 3-4).

The win was the Knights’ second in a row after dropping four straight. Colville beat East Valley 51-36 on Jan. 14.

West Valley 68, Cheney 50: Jake Love scored 23 points and Martin Herford added 19 as the Eagles (11-5, 4-4) snapped a three-game losing skid with a win over the host Blackhawks (4-13, 1-8). Alex Hall added 14 points for West Valley, which outscored Cheney 20-11 in the second quarter to take a 10-point halftime lead. The Blackhawks’ Alex Berman scored 23 points.

Pullman 78, Deer Park 24: Race Martin had 18 points and seven rebounds and A.J. Miles hit three 3-pointers and added 16 points as the Greyhounds (16-1, 10-0) overwhelmed the visiting Stags (6-12, 2-8). Pullman outscored Deer Park 27-4 in the first quarter and led 48-11 at the half. The Stags got six points apiece from Canyon Nielson and Nic Clough.

Northeast A

Chewelah 51, Freeman 48: Mason Miller scored 16 points and McKenzie Miller added 13 as the Cougars (5-13, 2-8) dug themselves out of a big hole and edged the visiting Scotties (9-8, 6-4). Freeman led 21-6 after the first quarter, but the Scotties couldn’t hold off Chewelah’s comeback. Freeman’s Jacob Phipps led all scorers with 18 points.

Riverside 61, Newport 45: Andrew Kramer scored 18 points and Dalton Rausch added 16 points and 12 rebounds as the Rams (16-2, 9-1) topped the visiting Grizzlies (9-10, 5-6). Riverside standout Tyler Axtell picked up a couple of early fouls and was sidelined for most of the first half. Newport’s Jeron Konkright scored 20 points and Joe Weltzin added 13.

Lakeside (WA) 70, Medical Lake 54: Cody Watkins scored 20 points, Ryan Quigley had 17 and Cameron Gay chipped in 15 as the Eagles (14-4, 9-1) defeated the host Cardinals (6-13, 4-7) to keep pace with Riverside atop the league standings. Medical Lake’s Tellas Johnson scored a team-high 20 points.

Northeast 2B

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 46, Colfax 40: Connor O’Neill scored 15 points and the Broncos (17-2, 12-2) survived the Bulldogs’ late charge in a win in Colfax. Kasey Johnson scored a game-high 21 points for Colfax (8-12, 5-9), which surged in the fourth but couldn’t complete the comeback.

Liberty 69, Northwest Christian 62: Match Burnham scored 35 points and added 11 rebounds and five steals as the Lancers (16-4, 10-4) defeated the visiting Crusaders (12-8, 7-7). Ryan Thayer added 17 points for Liberty, which led 34-22 at the half. Northwest Christian’s Jonathan Morris and Ryan Ricks scored 14 points apiece.

Springdale 57, Reardan 54: Josh Anderson scored 13 points and John Lynch and Chandler Carr added 12 apiece as the Chargers (5-15, 4-10) edged the visiting Indians (5-15, 1-13). Reardan’s Brandon Ruben led all scorers with 17 points.

St. George’s 75, Davenport 47: Will Tender scored 25 points and Dexter Sienko added 24 as the Dragons (20-0, 14-0) pulled away after a competitive first quarter and dumped the host Gorillas (6-14, 3-11). A 27-5 St. George’s run in the second quarter was the difference. Wyatt Evers scored 17 points and Max Mielke added 11 for Davenport.

• The District 8 2B tournament begins Monday at Mead and Mt. Spokane. No. 1 St. George’s will play No. 8 Reardan; No. 2 Lind-Ritzville/Sprague will play No. 7 Davenport; No. 3 Liberty will play No. 6 Springdale; and No. 4 Northwest Christian will play No. 5 Colfax.

Northeast 1B North

Selkirk 63, Inchelium 52: Dominic Cain scored 20 points, Shawn Mailly added 19 and the Rangers (9-9, 7-3) used an 18-8 second-quarter run to get past the visiting Hornets (3-8, 3-6) at Ione. Inchelium’s Quentin Holford scored 15 points.

Republic 43, Northport 20: Aaron Fritts had 15 points and seven steals and the Tigers (9-9, 7-4) surged in the second half to beat the visiting Mustangs (1-16, 1-9). Republic outscored Northport 28-12 after halftime.

Cusick 52, Columbia 25: Quinton Montgomery scored 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds to guide the Panthers (16-2, 10-0) past the visiting Lions (2-16, 1-10). Cusick built a 37-8 halftime advantage. Columbia’s Brayden Allen scored eight points.

Northeast 1B South

Wilbur-Creston 47, Valley Christian 40: Nick Densley scored 10 his 11 points in the second half, including two 3-pointers in the fourth quarter that kept Valley Christian at bay, as the Wildcats (13-5, 4-2) topped the Panthers (11-7, 4-3) in Wilbur. Dorian Jaeger scored 14 points and Colton Magers 12 for Wilbur-Creston.

Brad Gage and Nick Cox scored 11 points each for Valley Christian.

Odessa-Harrington 54, Wellpinit 43: Carsen Weber scored 17 points and Sam Schafer added 13 as the Titans (12-6, 5-1) used a 20-3 third-quarter run to get past the Redskins (9-9, 1-6) in Odessa. Wellpinit’s Brodie Ford scored 17 points.

Southeast 1B

Garfield-Palouse 67, Rosalia 52: Matthew Holbrook scored 27 points and the hot-shooting Vikings (16-2, 12-2) defeated the host Spartans (7-9, 5-7). Jesse Lopez added 12 points for Garfield-Palouse, which shot 48 percent from the floor. Rosalia’s Craig Nelson scored 15 points.

St. John-Endicott 53, Tekoa-Oakesdale 35: Robert Staples scored 19 points and Adam Blakeley and Caleb Hudson added 10 apiece as the Eagles (1-16, 1-12) pulled away after halftime and beat the Nighthawks (1-12, 1-10) in St. John. Tekoa-Oakesdale’s Cooper Angelo scored nine points.

Pomeroy 56, LaCrosse-Washtucna/Kahlotus 37: Riley Bott scored 12 points and Tyson Feider and Kade Snyder added nine apiece as the Pirates (16-1, 12-1) defeated the visiting Tigercats (7-8, 6-7). Darcy Stamped led LWK with 11 points.

Colton 52, Touchet 47: Jake Straughan buried four 3-pointers and finished with 25 points as the Wildcats (9-3, 8-3) edged the host Indians. Touchet’s Zach Carson scored 16 points.

Nonleague

Lake City 58, Lakeland 30: J.J. Winger hit 5 of 8 3-pointers and scored 15 points as the Timberwolves (12-4) heated up after a sluggish start and beat the Hawks (9-6) in Coeur d’Alene. Lakeland’s Tyrel Derrick led all scorers with 18 points.

Curlew 71, Kettle Falls 67: Mathan Knapp had 21 points and 12 rebounds as the Cougars (9-6) stormed back to erase a 12-point first-quarter deficit and beat the visiting Bulldogs (6-12). A 23-11 second-quarter run got Curlew back into the game. Kettle Falls’ Cole Wren led all scorers with 29 points.

Bonners Ferry 60, Stillwater Christian 51: Cameron Woods hit four first-half 3-pointers and finished with 18 points as the Badgers (5-9) gained an early advantage and held on to beat the visiting Cougars. Kyler Rice added 16 points, seven assists and six rebounds for Bonners Ferry, which outscored Stillwater Christian 18-7 in the opening quarter. The Cougars were led by Isaac Neuman’s 22 points.

St. Maries 58, Priest River 36: Logan Feasline scored 16 points and Leighton Gertje pulled down 10 rebounds as the Lumberjacks raced past the visiting Spartans (1-14). Priest River’s Hunter Hartwig scored 16 points.
