Announced Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan has rejoined the Houston Astros as the team’s executive advisor. Ryan worked as a special assistant to the general manager in Houston from 2004 until he became president of the Texas Rangers in 2008. He added CEO to his title with the Rangers in 2011 and remained in that position until he stepped down in October.

• Michael Jordan’s wife has given birth to the couple’s identical twin daughters. Yvette Jordan gave birth to Victoria and Ysabel on Sunday in West Palm Beach, Fla. A spokesman said the babies are doing well and the family is overjoyed.

• Raymond Floyd is returning to the Ryder Cup as an assistant captain for the second time in the past three matches. U.S. captain Tom Watson previously said Andy North would be an assistant. The Ryder Cup will be played Sept. 26-28 at Gleneagles and Scotland. The Americans have not won the Cup since 2008 – Floyd was an assistant on that team. They have not won on European soil since 1993.

Hired Former All-Pro linebacker Joey Porter has rejoined the Pittsburgh Steelers as a defensive assistant coach. Porter played 13 NFL seasons with Pittsburgh, Miami and Arizona and was a four-time All-Pro. Porter joined the Steelers staff after receiving his first coaching experience at his alma mater last season as a student assistant on Colorado State coach Jim McElwain’s staff while taking classes to complete his degree.

Agreed Pitcher Kenley Jansen and the Dodgers agreed on a $4.3 million, one-year contract, avoiding salary arbitration. Jansen had 28 saves with a 1.88 ERA last season after he took over the closer’s role from Brandon League.

• Right-handed reliever Tyler Clippard and the Washington Nationals have agreed on a one-year contract for $5,875,000, avoiding arbitration. He was 6-3 with a 2.41 ERA and 73 strikeouts in 71 innings last year.

Suspended Colorado Avalanche defenseman Erik Johnson has been suspended by the NHL for two games without pay for slashing New York Islanders forward Frans Nielsen.

Elected The World Boxing Associated elected Mauricio Sulaiman president, replacing his father who died last month. Sulaiman, 44, was chosen unanimously. Jose Sulaiman, who died last month at 82, was the long-time head of the WBC. He managed to institute new rules and regulations regarding boxers’ safety and welfare and was considered a friend of his fighters.
