Panthers, Wildcats stay alive

Bo Piersol tossed in 17 points and the Valley Christian Panthers held off a feverish fourth-quarter Curlew comeback Wednesday at Deer Park to eliminate the Cougars and advance to a boys District 7 1B loser-out matchup with Wilbur-Creston at 1 p.m. Saturday at Deer Park.

Trailing 36-22 after three quarters, Curlew applied full-court pressure and outscored the Panthers 28-16 in the fourth to make it interesting. Down 50-47, Cougars sophomore Gunner Brown was fouled attempting the tying 3-pointer. Brown made all three free throws to tie the game at 50. VC’s Nick Cox followed by making a pair of winning free throws with 20 seconds left.

Wilbur-Creston 67, Cusick 55: Also at Deer Park, Nick Densley (24) and Colton Magers (21) combined for 45 points and the Wildcats shut down Cusick in the fourth quarter to beat the Panthers in a loser-out District 7 1B game. Alec Bluff led Cusick with 27 points.

Idaho 2A District I-II

Scotty Lee scored 12 points and Caleb Turner added 11 to help Orofino defeat St. Maries 37-31 in a Central Idaho District I-II first-round game at Troy.

Jacob Greer scored eight points to top St. Maries.

Orofino will play Grangeville in the semifinals on Monday at Troy High School, while St. Maries will face Coeur d’Alene Charter in a loser-out game.


Taylor Morscheck scored 18 points, going 8 of 8 from the free throw line, and grabbed nine rebounds to help East Valley roll past West Valley 55-37 in a District 7 2A second-round game.

Jordan Phelan totaled 12 points with 15 rebounds for the Knights. .

Natalie Noble led West Valley with 10 points and Erin Higbie contributed eight with 16 rebounds for the Eagles.

East Valley will host Clarkston at home on Friday at 7 p.m. for the district championship. West Valley travels to Colville Friday for a loser-out game.

Clarkston 51, Colville 45: Jaclyn Meyers scored 11 of her 16 points in the fourth quarter to help the visiting Bantams beat the Indians in the other 2A semifinal.

Kristen Carey added 12 points for the Bantams.

Sadie Learn scored a game-high 17 points and McKenna Cabbage chipped in 14 for Colville, which will host West Valley in a loser-out game on Friday at 7 p.m.

District 7 1B

Kaylee Kieffer made a putback off an offensive rebound at the buzzer to help Wellpinit eliminate Selkirk 39-37 at Deer Park.

Kyra Antone finished with 16 points and 14 rebounds for the winners.

Andrea Colbin scored eight points and Jada Colbin had eight.

Katie Couch scored 20 to top Selkirk.

Wellpinit will play ACH on Saturday with a regional berth on the line.

Almira/Coulee-Hartline 64, Cusick 55: Reinnee Rockett had 23 points, Berlyn Hunt scored 17 and the pair combined for 19 points in the fourth quarter to spark the Warriors past the Panthers in a loser-out game at Deer Park.

ACH hit 10 3-pointers in the game, with seven of those coming in the second half.
