Russians show proper respect

The Olympics are about competition and sportsmanship. Thank you for running the Bill Plaschke commentary “Russian fans are great sports” on the front page on Sunday.

Russians are sometimes vilified and mocked by Americans, but the commentary reminds us that their good sportsmanship in the face of the Russian hockey defeat by the Americans reflects a deep and respectful apprecia- tion for sports and competition.

In a basement bar in a town near Sochi, the fans of the losing team shook the hands of the three visiting Americans watching the game with them. That’s great sportsmanship!

I only hope we would have done the same.
