Suspended Memphis forward Zach Randolph has been suspended for Game 7 of the Grizzlies’ playoff series against Oklahoma City for punching Thunder center Steven Adams in the jaw. The ruling Friday by the NBA leaves the Grizzlies without their leading scorer for the deciding game in Oklahoma City tonight. The play came with 6:42 left in the Thunder’s victory Thursday. Randolph is averaging a team-best 18.2 points in the series.
Fined Brooklyn Nets coach Jason Kidd was fined $25,000 by the NBA for public criticism of the referees. The penalty, announced hours before the Nets hosted Toronto in Game 6 of their first-round series, came for comments made during a conference call with reporters on Thursday. Kidd questioned why Joe Johnson shot only one free throw in the Nets’ 115-113 loss in Game 5. He also felt Shaun Livingston was fouled on a rebound in the final seconds.
Surgery Bulls center Joakim Noah is recovering after undergoing arthroscopic left knee surgery. Chicago announced the operation and that Noah will rehab his knee for eight to 12 weeks. The 6-foot-11 Noah is coming off his best season with the Bulls, when he was the NBA Defensive Player of the Year.
• Kentucky says basketball coach John Calipari is recovering from right hip replacement surgery. On the athletic department’s Twitter account, it said Calipari “is out of hip surgery and recovering. All went well.”
Announced Prosecutors won’t file criminal charges against ESPN analyst Keyshawn Johnson for a scuffle that scratched his ex-girlfriend’s finger. Los Angeles County prosecutors announced that there isn’t enough evidence to charge the former NFL wide receiver with domestic violence.
Died Olympic sprinter and former 100-meter dash world-record holder Frank Budd has died at 74. Villanova University says Budd, an alumnus, died Tuesday. A cause of death has not been given. In 1961 he set the world record in the 100-yard dash, finishing a race at Randall’s Island in New York in 9.2 seconds.
