Linocut Block Printing at the Dahmen Barn – Moscow artist Laurel Macdonald will offer three linocut block printing workshops for students 14 and older, with no previous experience required. Students will learn how to use a drawing or photograph to transfer an image to a linoleum block, cut the linoleum, and then print using a press. The themed workshops are: Saturday, Nature: fruits and vegetables; Nov. 15, Nature: birds, flowers and bugz; and Nov. 22, Christmas. $60/per workshop. Idaho Commission for Libraries – The Idaho Commission for Libraries and the Library of Congress Center for the Book is seeking submissions from students in grades 4-12 for the Letters about Literature competition. Students are invited to write a letter about their favorite author and explain how his or her work has changed the students’ perspective on the world. The contest has three competition levels: Level 1 for students in grades 4-6; Level 2 for students in grades 7-8; and Level 3 for students in grades 9-12. State winners will be awarded $100 in each level and will be announced in April. National winners will be awarded an additional $1,000 for first place and $200 for National Honors in each level. Submission deadlines are Dec. 15 for Level 3 and Jan. 15 for Levels 1 and 2. For further details, rules, and information visit http://libraries.idaho.gov/lal.
