In brief: Police seek driver in Spokane Valley hit-and-run

Sheriff’s investigators are seeking help to find the driver of an SUV that struck a pedestrian at about 5:20 p.m. Friday at the corner of 16th Avenue and Oberlin Road in Spokane Valley.

A resident found the 51-year-old victim trying to crawl off the road. He had head and leg injuries.

The SUV was described as an older make resembling a Jeep Cherokee. It is dark-colored and possibly green, according to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators say the SUV sustained front or right-front damage from the impact.

Proposed ski expansion subject of two meetings

A proposed expansion of Mt. Spokane Ski and Snowboard Park is the subject of two meetings this week in Spokane.

The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission will take public testimony on the proposal at a meeting 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at CenterPlace Regional Event Center, 2426 N. Discovery Place, Spokane Valley. At 10 a.m. Thursday, the commission will take up the issue at its meeting at Spokane City Hall, 808 W. Spokane Falls Blvd.

The nonprofit ski area wants to develop a new chairlift and seven ski runs on 279 acres on Mount Spokane’s northwest side. The plan is opposed by environmental groups, who say that area of Mount Spokane State Park is among the largest unbroken tracts of subalpine habitat left in Spokane County.

Apartment disturbance leads to woman’s arrest

Police arrested a woman claiming to be a military “special ops” agent who is accused of kicking open an apartment door and later stabbing the apartment manager’s husband with a syringe.

According to court documents, Elizabeth Y. Henning broke the door at the Chateaux Apartments at 930 N. Washington St.

The tenant said Henning first banged on the door, yelling “the military knows.” Henning then kicked the door open a few minutes later, according to court documents.

The apartment manager’s husband responded and saw Henning running from the emergency exit staircase. He said Henning stabbed him in the groin with an unused syringe after he told her to stop.

A Spokane police officer detained Henning in a parking lot and discovered 12-inch butcher knife in her backpack.
