Announced Doha has been chosen to host the 2019 track and field world championships. The Qatari capital beat out bids from Eugene, Oregon, and Barcelona in a secret vote Tuesday by members of the IAAF council. The athletics world championships are held every two years. Beijing will host next year’s worlds and London will stage the championships in 2017.

• The New York Mets are moving their fences in at Citi Field for the second time. The Mets will bring in the fences 3-to-11 feet in front of the bullpens in right field and right-center. Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said the team’s research projected there would have been 27 additional home runs this year under the new dimensions, including 17 by the Mets. Curtis Granderson would have hit nine of those and Lucas Duda four.

Revealed Miami Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton will make just $6.5 million in the first year of his record $325 million, 13-year contract. The deal with the All-Star outfielder, to be formally announced at a news conference today, includes a $25 million club option for 2028 with a $10 million buyout. Stanton will earn $107 million over the first six seasons of the deal. He then can opt out within four days of the end of the 2020 World Series, just around the time of his 31st birthday.

Agreed The Houston Astros have agreed to a one-year contract with Alex Presley, avoiding arbitration with the outfielder. Terms of the deal weren’t released.

• The Chicago White Sox have agreed to a $15 million, three-year contract with left-handed reliever Zach Duke, boosting their bullpen. Duke flourished in his lone season with Milwaukee, going 5-1 with a 2.45 ERA in a career-high 74 appearances. Duke is 55-77 with a 4.46 ERA over 10 seasons

• Midfielder Patrick Nyarko has agreed to a contract with the Chicago Fire and is staying with the club. A first-round pick in the 2008 MLS SuperDraft, Nyarko has 16 goals and is tied for fourth on the club’s all-time list with 35 assists.

• Free agent catcher Russell Martin and the Toronto Blue Jays have finalized an $82 million, five-year contract. A three-time All-Star, Martin hit .290 with 11 home runs and 67 RBIs last season, while also helping the Pirates to a second straight playoff berth.

Canceled Churchill Downs has canceled training on Tuesday and live racing today because of a blast of frigid weather that froze the main track. It’s the first time racing has been canceled because of a frozen track since Nov. 13, 1986.
