Arias, Finney lead Bengals past T-birds

Justin Arias passed for 465 yards and four touchdowns and Xavier Finney ran for 165 yard and three TDs to lead the Idaho State Bengals (4-3, 2-1 Big Sky) to a 56-28 win over the Southern Utah Thunderbirds on Saturday in Pocatello, Idaho.

Arias, the only Big Sky quarterback to throw for multiple TDs in every game, was 30 of 50 with no interceptions.

Finney had a pair of 1-yard TD runs in the first half as the Bengals built a 35-21 advantage.

Ammon Olsen tossed a 2-yard TD pass to Mitch Jessop to get Southern Utah within 35-28 in the third quarter. The Bengals answered with two Arias fourth-quarter TD passes – 29 yards to KW Williams and 43 yards to Josh Cook – and a 42-yard scoring run from Finney.

Olson was 38 of 65 for 528 yards and three TD for the T-birds (1-7, 1-3).

Montana 42, UC Davis 28: Jordan Canada ran for 151 yards and three scores, Jordan Johnson accounted for three TDs and the Grizzlies (5-2, 3-0) held off the Aggies (1-6, 0-4) in Missoula.

A week after giving up 77 points and 737 yards in a loss to Montana State at home, the Aggies were tied with Montana at halftime, 14-14, thanks to two Ben Scott TD tosses. He finished with four.

In the third quarter Johnson threw his second TD pass and Canada ripped off a 74-yard scoring run. Canada had TD runs of 24 and 21 yards in the fourth quarter to answer Scott TD passes.

Montana State 23, Weber State 13: Shawn Johnson ran for 153 yards and a TD to lead the Bobcats (6-2, 4-0) past the winless Wildcats (0-7, 0-3) in Bozeman.

Johnson scampered 63 yards for a score early in the third quarter to give the Bobcats a 14-3 lead.

Weber State held MSU quarterback Dakota Prukop without a TD and just 220 total yards.

Northern Arizona 21, Portland State 17: Chase Cartwright raced across the goal line from the 3 with 4 minutes left as the Lumberjacks (4-3, 2-1) rallied to defeat the Vikings (2-5, 1-2) in Portland, Oregon.

Portland State surged ahead when Steven Long ripped a 62-yard TD run on first down early in the third quarter, followed by a 31-yard Jonathan Gonzales field goal. Long gained 253 yards on 16 carries.

Cal Poly 56, Sacramento State 27: Kori Garcia ran for 141 yards and a TD and the Mustangs (4-3, 3-1) scored 35 straight points in a win over the Hornets (4-4, 1-3) in Sacramento, California.Cal Poly ran for 393 yards and six touchdowns.
