Classes and workshops

Spokane Art School Classes are at Spokane Art School, 809 W. Garland Ave., unless otherwise noted. Upcoming classes include: Painting and Drawing with Tom Quinn: Learn about the proportions and anatomy of the human head, then move on to portrait drawing with a live model. For high school-aged and adult artists. Wednesdays, April 15, 22, 29, May 6, 13, 20. 10 a.m.-noon. $120, plus $40 model fee. Transforming Found Objects into Unique Painted Portraits : Donna Stroud will lead students as they select imagery for their portraits, preferably photographs, but not necessarily, self-portraits. Using a mirror will be encouraged. We will reuse surfaces to paint on. Fridays, April 17, 24, May 1, 8, 15, 22. 4-7 p.m. $180 for six weeks. Spring Pottery Classes with Liz Bishop: Handbuilding – Learn about the clay process of handbuilding and glazing. Space is limited. Register at www.spokaneartschool.net. For students in first grade to adults. Wednesdays, April 15, 22, 29, May 6, 13, 20. 10 a.m.-noon. $100, plus $35 lab fee. Liz Bishop Studio, 11409 E. Alki Ave., Spokane Valley. Handmade Raku Tile – Students will design, construct, and glaze tiles for the Raku firing. Raku is a type of Japanese firing process in which the fired Raku piece is removed from the hot kiln and put directly into water or allowed to cool in the open air. Space is limited. Register at www.spokaneartschool.net. For ages 10 and over. Saturdays, April 25, 10 a.m.-1 p.m., May 2, 9, 10 a.m.-noon. $70, plus $35 lab fee.

Artworks Spokane, Artworks Garland and Artworks CdA Classes include Chalk Paint demos, technique workshops, including antiqued mirrors, cabinet rehab and painted glass tablescapes/wallscapes, style and color workshops, including coastal/lakeside/cottage style and modern retro style, embellishments and textures, including wood icing, Pinterest-inspired project workshops and three-day immersion workshops. Drawing in Color with Dana Aldis: In this four-session workshop, participants age 15 and older will develop their drawing skills and hand-eye coordination while working from observation (not photographs). Students will learn basic traditional drawing techniques such as line, structure, value/shading and cross-hatching, as well as composition. No experience necessary. All materials will be provided. Register by Monday. 4:30-6 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, 22 and 29. $32/per class; $128/all four sessions. Photography in Blue: Cyanotype with Harlan Crichton: Participants age 10 and older will use cyanotype, a nontoxic alternative photographic process, to produce images. No photography experience is necessary. Participants will have the opportunity to create one-of-a-kind images using found materials, old film, pressed flowers, jewelry or any other relatively flat objects. Register by April 23. 10 a.m. April 25. $25.

Social/Recreational and Education Activities for Adults with Disabilities Classes offered include wood shop, painting, ceramics, art and craft, reading and math, and computers. Call for artists

Artwalk 2015 Cover Art Contest The City of Moscow and the Moscow Arts Commission are seeking submissions for the Artwalk 2015 cover art. The winning artist will receive $500. The deadline for submissions is Monday by 5 p.m. Applications may be downloaded at www.ci.moscow.id.us/ records/Applications/Artwalk-Cover- Art-Application.pdf, picked up at the Arts Department in Moscow City Hall, or picked up at the Moscow Chamber of Commerce. Evergreen Art Association Open Juried Show Open to area artists who may submit up to two pieces of two-dimensional work. Registration is due April 13 and can be mailed to Evergreen Art Association, c/o Robert Karr, 205 N. Craig Ave., Newport, Wash. There is a non-refundable entry fee of $15 for one piece and $20 for two pieces. The show begins April 17 at Create Art Center, 900 W.
