In brief: Grizzlies win, move into tie for No. 2 seed in West
NBA: Jeff Green scored 22 points and Marc Gasol added 19 as the Memphis Grizzlies defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder 100-92 on Friday night.
Green and Gasol were among six Grizzlies finishing in double figures as Memphis won its second straight and moved into a tie with Houston for the second seed in the Western Conference and top spot in the Southwest Division.
Zach Randolph finished with 14 points for Memphis, while Mike Conley and Courtney Lee scored 13 apiece.
Enes Kanter led the Thunder with 24 points and 17 rebounds. Russell Westbrook scored 18, but only six after the first quarter while connecting on only five of his 20 shots.
• Spurs win 50th for 16th straight season: Danny Green scored 21 points, including 6-for-6 shooting on 3-pointers, and the San Antonio Spurs cruised to a 123-93 victory in San Antonio, Texas, over the Denver Nuggets after losing Tiago Splitter to a right calf injury during a strong start.
Kawhi Leonard had 20 points and Washington State alum Aron Baynes added 18 points in 19 minutes for San Antonio, which has won six straight.
Danilo Galinari scored 20 points to lead Denver.
The Spurs (50-26) extended their league record of consecutive 50-win seasons to 16 straight. San Antonio moved into a tie with the Los Angeles Clippers for fifth in the Western Conference.
• Stuckey leads Pacers: Ex-Eastern Washington guard Rodney Stuckey scored 15 points off the bench to lead the Indiana Pacers to a 93-74 victory over the Charlotte Hornets.
Indiana and Charlotte are both making a push for the final spot in this year’s playoffs.
• Nets win sixth straight: Deron Williams scored a season-high 31 points, Thaddeus Young made the tiebreaking basket with 22 seconds left, and the Brooklyn Nets beat the Toronto Raptors 114-109 in New York for their season-high sixth straight victory.
Brook Lopez added 30 points and 17 rebounds for the Nets, who have surged into seventh place in the Eastern Conference.
DeMar DeRozan finished with 27 points, eight rebounds and eight assists for the Raptors, who came in tied with Chicago for third place in the East.
• Wright out 4-6 weeks: Portland Trail Blazers forward Dorell Wright is expected to miss four to six weeks because of a fractured bone in his left hand.
Wright injured his non-shooting hand in Wednesday’s loss to the Los Angeles Clippers and X-rays confirmed he fractured the fourth metacarpal bone.
Avalanche stay alive with win over Ducks
NHL: Matt Duchene scored the winning goal about halfway through the third period as the Colorado Avalanche kept their slim playoff hopes alive with a 4-2 victory over the host Anaheim Ducks.
That goal keeps the Avalanche mathematically alive for another day, trailing the Los Angeles Kings by six points for the final berth with only four games remaining. The Avalanche play their final road game Saturday at the Kings.
• Blues, Stars set NHL-record: Alex Pietrangelo scored the unassisted tiebreaker and the St. Louis Blues netted four third-period goals to beat the host Dallas Stars 7-5.
The game also featured an NHL-record four goals within 49 seconds.
Jamie Benn had two scores as the Stars rallied for four second-period goals.
• Devils snap skid: Jacob Josefson and Patrik Elias scored in the shootout and the New Jersey Devils snapped a season-high six-game losing streak with a 3-2 victory over the Montreal Canadiens in Newark, New Jersey.
The shootout loss gave the Canadiens 104 points for the season and a two-point lead over Tampa Bay in the Atlantic Division with three games left in the regular season.
Freeman well-rested after sitting out ’14
NFL: Quarterback Josh Freeman notes at least one benefit from being out of work last season – he’s well-rested.
The former first-round draft pick says he’s fit and has a healthy attitude too as he joins the Miami Dolphins to compete for a backup job behind Ryan Tannehill.
Freeman signed a one-year contract hoping to mount a career comeback. He has 60 career starts but hasn’t played since October 2013.
• Colts add safety Lowery: The Indianapolis Colts have found another potential starting safety in free agency, agreeing to terms with Dwight Lowery.
Lowery started 15 games with the Falcons last season and finished with a career-high 85 tackles.
• Bucs trade Goldson to Redskins: The Washington Redskins have acquired two-time Pro Bowl safety Dashon Goldson from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for an undisclosed 2016 draft pick.
Goldson went to the Pro Bowl following his 2011 and 2012 seasons with the 49ers.
The 30-year-old safety signed with the Buccaneers in 2013 and started 27 games over the past two seasons.
Ko’s record-tying under-par streak ends
GOLF: Lydia Ko missed a chance to break the LPGA Tour record for consecutive rounds under par, closing with a bogey for a 1-over 73 in the second round of the ANA Inspiration at Rancho Mirage, California.
Needing a birdie on the par-5 18th to extend her streak to 30, the 17-year-old New Zealander hit her second shot into the water after catching a flyer out of the right rough on her layup attempt. After a penalty drop, her fourth shot rolled 15 feet past and she missed the putt.
Ko was seven strokes behind leader Sei Young Kim.
• Putnam leads Mickelson at Houston Open: Andrew Putnam made a late charge to pass three-time Masters champion Phil Mickelson and take a one-shot lead after two rounds of the Houston Open.
The 26-year-old Putman, who made his PGA Tour debut here a year ago, birdied six of his final nine holes on the Golf Course of Houston’s front side for a 7-under 65. He was at 12-under 132.
Mickelson, who won the event in 2011, shot 67 for a share of second place at 133.
Spokane native Alex Prugh was still in the hunt, tied for 12th after posting a 3-under 69.
Djokovic and Murray in Miami Open final
TENNIS: Novak Djokovic outserved 6-foot-10 American John Isner and won their semifinal at the Miami Open, 7-6 (3), 6-2.
The No. 1-seeded Djokovic closed to within one win of his fifth Key Biscayne title. His opponent in Sunday’s final will be two-time champion Andy Murray.
Murray, who won the title in 2009 and 2013, lost his first service game in each set but recovered and advanced to the final by beating Tomas Berdych.
