From staff reports

A fire started by a vehicle block heater caused significant damage to a South Hill home Tuesday night.

Spokane firefighters responded to 2704 E. 38th Ave. just before 11 p.m. Tuesday for a garage fire, the fire department said in a news release. The garage was engulfed in flames, and fire had spread to the main house.

Crews from the Spokane Valley Fire Department and Fire District 8 also responded.

No one was injured in the fire, but damage was estimated at $90,000. The residents were not able to return to the house because of the extensive damage.
