Bantams capture District 7 2A boys
Trevon Allen and CJ Johnson scored 17 points apiece as Clarkston rolled to a 72-45 victory over visiting West Valley in the District 7 2A boys championship game on Monday night.
Clarkston will play host to the No. 2 seed from the Central Washington Athletic Conference, while West Valley travels to the face the CWAC’s No. 1 seed. Both games are Saturday night.
Jett Sobotta scored 12 points, all from 3-point range in the first half, to help Clarkston build a 43-22 halftime lead and the Bantams cruised from there.
Martin Herford was the only Eagle in double figures with 13 points.
Boys 2B subregional
Northwest Christian and Liberty won on Monday at West Valley to advance to seeding games in the regional round of the State 2B tournament while Colfax and Wilber-Creston survived to play another day.
NWC defeated Walla Walla Valley Academy 63-52 and Liberty overcame St. George’s 66-53 to set up a meeting of the winners on Saturday at Whitman College in Walla Walla.
Colfax defeated Tri-Cities Prep 55-31 and Wilbur-Creston beat Waitsburg-Prescott 84-72 in loser-out games. Colfax will play WWVA and Wilbur-Creston meets St. George’s Friday at Whitman in loser-out games.
NWC 63, WWVA 52: Ryan Ricks scored 22 points, Asher Cox 16 and David Olds 14 for the Crusaders, who saw a nine-point halftime lead dwindle to two early in the fourth quarter before pulling away.
Cox scored six points in the fourth as the Crusaders rallied and Ricks had five.
Liberty 66, St. George’s 53: Match Burnham had a double-double with 24 points and 12 rebounds, to help rally the Lancers past the Dragons.
St. George’s overcame a 12-point halftime deficit to lead 39-37 at the end of three quarters. Match Burnham and Chase Burnham scored nine points apiece, and the Lancers were 8 of 8 from the line in a 28-point fourth quarter. Felix Tsai scored 25 to lead the Dragons.
Colfax 55, Tri-Cities Prep 31: Danny Robinson scored 13 points and Kenton Lyman and Keith Gfeller added 10 apiece to lead the Bulldogs past the Jaguars. The Bulldogs jumped out to a 30-11 halftime lead and were not threatened.
Wilbur-Creston 84, Waitsburg-Prescott 72: All five starters scored in double figures for the Wildcats, who scored 59 points in the second half to overcome an 11-point halftime deficit, en route to ousting the Cardinals.
“We were just out of our minds,” said W-C coach Tom Johnson said.
Nick Densley scored 22 points, Colton Magers had 19, Trystan Rosman 16, Dorian Jaeger 15 and Garet Townsend 12 for the Wildcats.
Girls 2B subregional
Colfax and Dayton will play for the District 7/9 championship at Walla Walla Community College on Saturday night after both won Monday at West Valley.
Defending State 2B champion Colfax defeated Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 50-39 while Dayton edged Northwest Christian 46-45.
LRS will take on Reardan, a 40-39 winner over DeSales in a loser-out game, and NWC plays St. George’s, which ousted Asotin 58-43, on Friday at Whitman College.
Colfax 50, LRS 39: Amara Huber had 14 points and 10 rebounds and Kori Goodwin added six points and five assists for the Bulldogs. Jenna Bennett scored 11 points and Tessa Jantz had nine points and nine rebounds to lead LRS.
Dayton 46, NWC 45: Results were not reported.
St. George’s 58, Asotin 43: Ceci Bergquist scored a game-high 25 points and Hailey Higashi had 20 points, four assists and four steals to lead the Dragons. Shanndyn Fyant hit four 3-pointers and led the Panthers with 16 points.
Reardan 40, DeSales 39: Michelle Tinsley hit two key 3-pointers in the fourth quarter as the Indians overcame a 31-26 deficit after three quarters. Maddie Johnson scored a game-high 20 points for Reardan.
