Tested All-Star forward Chris Bosh of the Miami Heat underwent more tests in a South Florida hospital amid concerns that blood clots have worked their way from his legs to his lungs to create a condition that could be season-ending or worse. Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said the team is still waiting for a full diagnosis and expected prognosis, insisting that it is too soon to draw any conclusions. Bosh is averaging 21.1 points and seven rebounds.

Paid Pitcher Mike Minor won his salary arbitration case against the Atlanta Braves. Minor was awarded a raise from $3.85 million to his $5.6 million request rather than the Braves’ $5.1 million offer. The 27-year-old left-hander was 6-12 with a 4.77 ERA in 25 starts last year.

Retired Longtime umpire Tim McClelland has retired. The 63-year-old McClelland was perhaps best known for being the plate umpire who called out George Brett in the “Pine Tar Game” in 1983.

McClelland worked in the majors for more than 32 years, was a crew chief and handled the World Series four times.

Hired The St. Louis Rams hired Chris Weinke as quarterbacks coach. Weinke played seven NFL seasons after winning a Heisman Trophy and leading Florida State to a national championship. He replaces Frank Cignetti, recently promoted to offensive coordinator.

Extended North Carolina State coach Dave Doeren has signed a two-year contract extension through the 2019 season, which raises Doeren’s yearly guaranteed pay by $400,000 to $2.2 million plus incentives.

The Wolfpack finished 8-5, improved their win total by five games from 2013 and won the Bitcoin Bowl in December.

Studied The Big Ten is studying whether freshmen athletes should be ineligible to compete while they adjust to college life. The conference said it has reached out to members to see if they are interested “in beginning a national discussion regarding a year of readiness for student-athletes.”
