Phoenix murder suspect not linked to Northwest cold cases

Associated Press

EVERETT – Everett police and the Snohomish County sheriff’s office say they’re not aware of any homicide cases that might involve Bryan Patrick Miller, the former Everett resident arrested in Phoenix in the deaths of two young women more than 20 years ago.

The sheriff’s office said the only record on Miller was an arrest in 2002 in an assault case. Miller was arrested in the stabbing of Melissa Ruiz-Ramirez, but acquitted after claiming she tried to rob him.

Everett police said detectives are looking at past case files, but nothing has been found.

Police in Phoenix say DNA evidence linked Miller to the deaths of Angela Brosso and Melanie Bernas, who vanished while riding bikes in the early 1990s.

The 42-year-old was arrested Tuesday and held on two counts of first-degree murder and of kidnapping and one count of sexual assault.

Police said Miller moved to Washington state after the deaths but later returned to Arizona.
