Retired U.S. soccer formally announced that midfielders Shannon Boxx, 38, and Lauren Holiday, 27, will retire from the U.S. national team following a victory tour to celebrate the Women’s World Cup title. A center midfielder, Boxx has 27 goals in 191 international appearances. Holiday has 24 goals in 130 appearances with the national team, which she joined in 2007 after playing at UCLA. Scheduled The United States will host Aruba or St. Vincent and the Grenadines at St. Louis on Nov. 13 in the Americans’ opening qualifier for the 2018 World Cup. Seeking their eighth straight World Cup appearance, the Americans are at Trinidad and Tobago on Nov. 17, then play at the Guatemala-Antigua and Barbuda loser on March 25 before hosting the winner of that series on March 29. The Americans play at Aruba or St. Vincent on Sept. 2, then close the fourth round at home against Trinidad on Sept. 6.

Acquired The Montreal Impact traded for former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba. Drogba moves to North America following his second spell at Chelsea, where he won the league title last season. The 37-year-old Ivory Coast forward signed with the Chicago Fire, who then sent him to the Impact for general and targeted allocation money. Drogba scored 163 goals and won four Premier League titles in two stints with Chelsea. Signed The Nashville Predators signed forward Colin Wilson to a four-year contract worth $15.75 million to remain in Nashville. The 25-year-old Wilson set career highs in goals (20) and points (42) and tied a personal best in assists (22) in 2014-15.

• The New York Rangers signed center Derek Stepan to a long-term contract. Terms were not immediately available. A restricted free agent, Stepan had 16 goals and 39 assists in 68 games for the Rangers last season.

Traded The Chicago Sky traded center Sylvia Fowles to the Minnesota Lynx as part of a three-team deal. The Sky acquired Erika De Souza from Atlanta and also give the Lynx their second-round pick in next year’s draft. The Dream get Damiris Dantas, Reshanda Gray and Minnesota’s first-round pick in 2016.
