Havana, Glenrose project begins with work at Freya

A project to upgrade Havana Street from 37th Avenue to Glenrose Road and Glenrose Road from Havana to 57th Avenue gets underway today with preparations for handling traffic along Freya Street.

Workers this week will be at Freya and 44th Avenue where a new trail is being built. The trail will run on the 44th Avenue right of way from Freya to Havana Street.

The street work involves replacing the pavement on Havana Street and Glenrose Road from 37th to 57th avenues. Sidewalks will be added where they are needed.

Bicycle lanes are being created. In this job, the city is going to use a porous type of asphalt for the bike trails that will allow rain and snowmelt to soak into the ground. That will reduce stormwater disposal along the route.

In addition, the city is going to install a new 36-inch water main from 37th to the Browne Park reservoirs at 57th Avenue and Glenrose Road.

The project is estimated to cost $3.7 million. Completion is expected this fall.

Flaggers will be posted on Freya and Havana to help control traffic.

Around Spokane

Elsewhere in the city, 20 mph speed limits have gone up for the summer at the following parks: Cannon, Chief Garry, Mission, Shadle, Audubon, Comstock, Hays and Lincoln.

The bridge on Hatch Road at Latah Creek will be closed Tuesday through Thursday for repairs.

Repaving work is getting started today on Perry Street from Illinois to Mission avenues. Street closures are expected through Thursday.

I-90 closures at pass

Eastbound lanes of Interstate 90 east of Snoqualmie Pass are going to be closed at times during evening and morning hours this week.

Workers are setting girders for an avalanche bridge along Keechelus Lake.

The closures will last about an hour and occur several times through the night. The closure hours starting tonight will be from 9 p.m. to 9 a.m. the next morning through Friday morning.

The work is part of the widening of I-90.

Trent restrictions

Repaving work on state Highway 290, also known as Trent Avenue, will result in evening and early-morning lane restrictions in the work zone at Sullivan Road to Wellesley Avenue.

The lane restrictions will run from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. starting today.

Sullivan Road may also have lane restrictions.

I-90 will see street sweepers this week from Sunset Hill to Argonne Road.

Around the region

Three state highway projects in Whitman County will cause lane restrictions.

U.S. Highway 195 from the south end of Pullman to Babbitt Road will see single-lane alternating traffic during daytime hours. Delays could be as long as 20 minutes.

To the north, workers will have lane restrictions through Colfax during evening and morning hours. In addition, repaving work is underway from Colfax to Dry Creek Road. Delays are expected.

State Highway 27 is also seeing single-lane alternating traffic during a chip sealing project from Palouse to Garfield.

State Highway 20 from Okanogan County to Republic is also getting a chip seal. Traffic is being reduced to a single, alternating lane with pilot cars.
