Four area players named to first-team all-state in baseball
Four area baseball players were named to Washington State Baseball Coaches Association All-State first teams.
They are: 2A – Connor Pratt of Cheney; 1A/B – Garrett Burke of Colfax, McKabe Cottrell of Freeman and Ben McConnell of Lakeside.
A handful of others were named to second teams. They are: 4A – Jordan Rathbone of Gonzaga Prep and Jared Smith of University; 3A – Zach Day of Rogers and Matt Pulliam and Tyler Bailey of Mt. Spokane; 2A – Kyle Jones of Cheney; 1A/B – Jake Phipps and Desmund Parisotto of Freeman, Ahron Wuesthoff of Chewelah, Cory Wagner of Medical Lake, Aaron Fritts of Republic and Tucker Anderson of Lakeside.
Soccer
The U-17 Spokane SC Shadow 97 girls qualified for the Far West Regional championships, which began Monday in Boise.
Bowling
Clint Norlen of Deer Park took first in the WSUSBC Youth state tournament held in Bothell last month.
Norlen competed in the U-20 boys division against 64 other competitors. His total pin fall was 3,322. He earns scholarships for his wins at sectionals and state.
He advances to the Junior Gold, a national tournament representing Washington. Winners from all 50 states are invited to compete in the largest youth tourney, July 13-17 in Chicago.
A junior at Riverside High School, Norlen is in just his fourth year of bowling.
Lacrosse
The Spokane Youth Lacrosse 7th/8th grade Stingers won the Silver Bracket for the Washington Cup, defeating Mercer Island 12-7 in the championship game in Issaquah on June 7.
Players included Brett Bacon, Joe Schauer, Matthew Cortner, Will Ladyman, Asa Herbst, Riley Renner, Dylan Soth, William Babin, Jack Martin, Brenden Haney, Mitchell Sanders, Aiden Erickson, Braden Cary, Klouse Albers, Grant Beam, Matthew Chadduck, Alex Chadduck, Curran Evans, Aidan Gaetano, Caleb Hutchinson, Patrick Maddigan, Nick Powell and Brian Rusnak.
