Blazers end Spokane’s win streak

KAMLOOPS, British Columbia – The Kamloops Blazers ended the Spokane Chiefs’ four-game winning streak with a 4-2 win on Friday night.

Cole Ully and Colin Shirley scored in the first period and Jake Kryski added another in the second for the Blazers.

The Chiefs then got on the board with a goal from Blair Oneschuk, who stole the puck in Kamloops’ zone and scored in the second period.

Ully scored again just 45 seconds into the third period on a power play.

Keanu Yamamoto got the Chiefs’ other goal, his 10th, late in the final period.

Spokane goaltender Garrett Hughson, who had turned in two shutouts in his three previous games, gave up the four goals on 30 shots.

The Blazers (65-25-33-4-3, 57), who came into the game tied for the fewest points in the Western Conference, beat the Chiefs for the first time in four games.

Despite the loss, Spokane (63-31-28-3-1, 66) didn’t give up any ground to Tri-City for the West’s seventh playoff berth as the Americans lost to Everett 1-0.
