Colton 89, Sunnyside Chr. 70

Six-time defending champion Colton had a resounding response to the pressure it faced in the State 1B title game.

Led by Zoe Moser and Savannah Chadwick, the Wildcats won yet again, this time erasing a nine-point first-quarter deficit in a victory over the Sunnyside Christian Knights.

Moser poured in 35 points – one shy of the tournament record – and Chadwick added 23.

Things didn’t look that great early for the Wildcats. Sunnyside Christian’s Sailor Liefke blocked a shot and raced down court for a transition layin to put the Knights on top 15-6 with 2:40 left in the first quarter. But the Wildcats had an answer. Chadwick’s 3-pointer with 30 seconds left in the first cut the lead to five and Moser’s transition layin with 7:15 left in the second tied it at 20.

Ahead 42-32 at the half, Moser scored nine points in the first 3 minutes of the second half to give the Wildcats a 51-35 lead. From there, the Knights just couldn’t keep pace.

Colton extended its winning streak to 71.

Graham took over the second extra frame, as she stole the ball for a layup, sank another 3 and added two free throws with 14.2 seconds to go, and Neah Bay couldn’t force a third overtime, as they missed two 3-point tries in the waning moments.
