Appeared Boxers Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao made their first joint appearance to promote their highly anticipated bout. Mayweather and Pacquiao will meet at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on May 2. The fighters won’t appear together again until fight week.

Injured Guard Sergey Karasev of the Brooklyn Nets will have season-ending surgery today to repair his injured right knee. The Nets say Karasev has a torn medial collateral ligament, a dislocated patella and multiple loose bodies in the knee.

Informed The NBA says the Players Association has informed the league that it won’t agree to smoothing in the increased revenues from the national TV deals. The league’s new contracts will be worth more than $2.6 billion. Because the salary cap is tied to revenues, that will cause the cap to soar in the first season, giving many teams spending money they otherwise wouldn’t have. To prevent that, the league has sought to set a cap figure that would lead to gradual increases.

Named Villanova guard Ryan Arcidiacono and fellow point guard Kris Dunn from Providence are co-winners of the Big East Player of the Year award. Villanova’s Jay Wright was chosen Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season, and Seton Hall freshman Angel Delgado took Rookie of the Year honors.

Fired Nevada basketball coach David Carter was fired after posting losing records four of the last five seasons. Nevada lost to UNLV 67-46 in the first round of the Mountain West Conference tournament to finish the season 9-22.

Extended D.C. United general manager Dave Kasper agreed to a multiyear contract extension. Kasper will also add the title of vice president of soccer operations. Kasper has worked for D.C. United for 13 years.

Moved Hall of Fame jockey Ron Turcotte was moved to a hospital closer to his home in Grand Falls, New Brunswick, a day after his legs were broken when the van he was driving flipped on its side. The 73-year-old Turcotte, who rode Secretariat to the Triple Crown in 1973, has been paralyzed from the waist down after a racing spill in 1978.

Named Andretti Autosport named Simona de Silvestro as its fourth driver for the season-opening race at St. Petersburg, Florida. She’ll join a lineup that includes Indianapolis 500 champion Ryan Hunter-Reay, reigning rookie of the year Carlos Munoz and Marco Andretti.
