Give and Take: Letters to the editor
GU coverage shows ‘editorial sexism’
It’s been said, “A picture is worth a thousand words,” and this morning’s front page (Monday, March 23) of the sports section reflects poorly on the paper.
There was not one, but two, large photographs of the Gonzaga men’s team celebrating getting into the Sweet 16.
By contrast, the Sweet 16 women’s team is represented with a tiny postage stamp photograph. While allotted pictorial space does not have to be equal, due to editorial sexism, the women’s same accomplishment was reduced visually to something negligible.

Hasn’t the S-R heard of Title IX?
What fun it was to open the Review this morning and to see both home town teams headed to the Sweet 16. Hat’s off to the Gonzaga women and men.
And then my lovely wife, Marilyn, pointed out the little teeny picture of Elle Tinkle being hugged by her dad and above the fold a huge Domantas Sabonis ripping down a dunk. Wow, just a little difference!
So I got out the trusty “cakalator” (sic) and discovered the following: The men managed four pics for 169.9 square inches and the women three pics for 51.7 square inches. Moving on to the column inches of print it doesn’t get any better. There is a total of 169.9 inches of ink for the men and 44.5 for the Lady Bulldogs.
Should I also point out that the 2nd seeded men prevailed over a 7th seeded Hawkeyes and the 11th seeded women pummeled 3rd seeded Oregon State for a west coast upset.
It has been 42 years since the passage of Title IX but the struggle just goes on and on and on.
